Recently I was walking around Moscow and saw a girl in high heels. It was clear how uncomfortable she was walking along the improved tiled sidewalk. And I realized that I had not met people in such exotic shoes for a very long time. They are probably found in abundance at black tie events, but have practically disappeared from everyday life - everyone wears sneakers all year round, no matter how elegant the rest of their clothing is.

True, the process of ousting heels took not only years, but decades.

Why am I doing all this? “The world has changed,” remember what Galadriel said? A lot has changed during this crazy year, and I’m sure more will change before the end of December. And oh-so-quickly the ideas about what kind of make-up is in and what kind is out. At the same time, the line between in and out has become blurred—the devil is in the details. And these formulations themselves - “inauts” - also seem like something that smells of mothballs.

Until recently, I associated drawings on my face with children’s face painting. When I started watching Euphoria a year ago, I sat and thought: what is this little cloud?!

But literally after a couple of episodes I got used to it, and then these clouds aroused no more emotions in me than ordinary arrows.

Then I came to TikTok. And the children there, you know, also always draw something on their cheekbones - either a heart or a star. In the fall of 2019, while at the Intercos plant, I looked into the room with trends for 2022, in which an entire stand was dedicated to facial art.

People who predict the future believe that in a couple of years we will be going out for bread like Ezra Miller at the Met Gala.

Did I think a year ago that I would take eyeliner and draw some squiggles on my face? Nope. And now I look at any new eyeliner from the angle of “will it be comfortable to draw on?”

The second thing I remember about “Euphoria” is, naturally, the sparkles. I've always loved them, but it was the series that made them everyday. And if earlier I applied them to my eyes or cheekbones, now I can smear them on my eyes, temples, cheekbones, and even sprinkle them with glitter freckles. And not to a disco, but for a day walk.

And, returning to TikTok. Before this, I didn’t like blush, I had one that I used every other time. And after spending a couple of dozen hours on TikTok, I’m ready to blush everything that comes to hand: cheeks, eyes, forehead, nose (especially the nose - this visually subtracts at least 5 years, I wonder why, by the way). I can just paint on my cheekbones, eyelids and nose - the makeup is ready.

Well, my most shocking discovery: careful shading is no longer necessary, especially shading through an auxiliary color (my favorite, whine). She emphasizes that you tried when you put on makeup. Better this way.

We have been learning for years to smoothly blend blue into the skin and we all remember the rule “if it seems to you that the shadows have already been shaded enough...”. Now you can smear it with your finger (or even not smudge it) - and everything is cool. And too beautiful shading smacks of OCD.

And in general, anything that shows that you tried and spent more than 10 minutes on makeup has become somehow... indecent. The main rule, no matter how banal it may sound, is relax. (This has never happened before, and here it is again:) Remember the spells of the past - “we highlight either the eyes or the lips”, “red lipstick requires an even tone”, “you need to even out the skin of the eyelid under the arrow”? Now no one owes anything to either the arrow or the red lipstick. You can not apply foundation, sprinkle half your face with glitter and put a dot on your nose and go to a ball or to a bakery.

Color stretching - God forbid. If you want to combine several colors, choose the most incompatible ones. Don't make it look like you spent an hour studying the color wheel.

The changes, in my opinion, are super radical. Probably, so far only people from the beauty scene know about this, and such makeup can be seen on Instagram, and not in Pyaterochka. But remember those huge sneakers that at first everyone giggled at and said were ugly? Now those who shop at TSUM, those who shop at Zara, and those at Sadovod have them.

The main thing you need to know about the rules of fashionable make-up is that they are not rules. And not even recommendations, but a new view that was formed in response to changes in the outside world. “Euphoria” had a huge impact (this is, in my opinion, a rare case when a film influenced people’s views so much). The second factor is covid. During the time spent in isolation, many have become accustomed to seeing themselves in the mirror as they are. And it turned out to be not terrible :) And if so, is it worth spending time on “full diligent make-up”?

Let me give you an example. Here I was walking with a decal on my cheekbone.

Previously, I would have at least painted my eyelashes and lips, drawn on my eyebrows, and done some sculpting. Now I just applied the tone and glued the pig - that’s it.

And the main difference between the trends of the present and those hundreds that have changed before is that everything should be... relaxed. In the words of the last century, what is in fashion today is not white wings and a ruddy nose, but this very relaxedness.
