Max BarskikhBortnik Nikolai Nikolaevich

Childhood

Little Kolya was born into a simple working-class family during a difficult period for the country. The baby became the third child of his parents. The eldest was sister Oksana. Brother Maxim was not much ahead in years. Supporting a family during a time when everything was falling apart was not an easy task. Life became more and more difficult.

According to the old Slavic tradition, the head of the family found relief in a glass of vodka. The habit grew into passion and completely consumed Father Nikolai. Family conflicts, drunken scandals, and beatings of household members began. When Kolya turned 11 years old, his mother’s patience ran out. The marriage was dissolved, the family broke up.

The care of raising three children fell on fragile women's shoulders. At the age of 10, Kolya began studying at art school. No less attention was paid to music. The boy actively participated in singing competitions and tried his hand at writing songs.

He performed one of them for his sister Oksana. The girl offered to sing it at a family celebration. The first stormy applause gave Kolya the desire to make music his main occupation. To help his family, at the age of 13, the boy began earning his first money by distributing advertising products.

Note: A difficult childhood never put an end to personal development. Most famous people who have had difficult experiences from an early age note that difficulties build character. Without such hardening, the peaks achieved in adulthood would never have been conquered.

By the time I graduated from school, my desire to become an artist was fully formed. Mom wanted to see her son as a police officer, but Nikolai decided to study at a theater university. The choice fell on the Kyiv Municipal Academy of Variety and Circus Arts. I managed to get in on the first try.

Kolya Bortnik appeared before the audience as “Max Barskikh”. The first songs performed, “Anomaly” and “Forget-Me-Not,” became chart leaders in Ukraine.

Fame

In 2008, freshman Nikolai Bortnik decided to take part in the Ukrainian project “Star Factory”. During the selection process, the competition jury was fascinated by the young man’s vocal abilities and plasticity. While participating in the project, Max-Nikolai met music video director Alan Badoev.

Perhaps the biography of Max Barskikh would have gone differently if not for the work under the leadership of Badoev, who became the producer of the young artist. In 2009, everyone started talking about Max Barskikh. The reason was not a creative breakthrough, but an eccentric act. While working on the project, Max met singer Svetlana Loboda twice.

The artists recorded a joint composition “For What”

Once again fate brought the artists together by chance on December 12, 2008 at the Arena club. Barsky began to pester the singer, tried to kiss him, but was sent away with the words: “Boy, stay away from me.” On December 14, a gala concert of “Star Factory-2” took place at the Ukraina Palace. Max began his speech with words about his love for a girl named Sveta.

After performing the song, the young artist began to cut the veins on his hand with glass from the bottles that made up the decoration of the act. The people who ran onto the stage did not allow us to continue what we started. The singer then raised his bloody hand, showing it to the audience.

True, the cuts were made not along the blood vessels and tendons, but along them. Most of the participants in “Star Factory-2” considered the act a PR move. Perhaps this is true. Scandal is the engine of show business. Loboda condemned the Barskys' act.

Both before and after the scandalous incident, Barskikh and Loboda participate in joint creative projects. This story did not stop them from subsequently recording the hit “Heart Beats” as a duet and going on a joint tour of the cities of Ukraine.

The performers organized a joint tour of the cities of Ukraine

The talented young man is not only a performer. Max tried himself as a film actor, playing a role in the musical film “Mademoiselle Zhivago”. Among the actors was French actress Lara Fabian. In 2011, the Barskys’ 3D video “Lost In Love”, directed by Alan Badoev, was the first to be released in the post-Soviet space.

Nikolai Fandeev noted that despite the singer’s amazing musical advancement, when listening to the album, “you get the impression that you are listening to one long song. Moreover, it’s quite boring, because the vast majority of the tracks on the disc are slow. To top it all off, the painful mood of listening to the album is further aggravated by the lyrics. It seems that all of Max Barskikh’s songs are about love, but for some reason they contain a terrifyingly huge number of “suicidal” and “sado-maso” themes and images! Fandeyev named the songs “Sky” and “Lullaby”, performed in Ukrainian, as creative successes of Max Barskikh. According to the critic, the artist can sing in Ukrainian “much better” and should continue to move in this direction[4].

In addition to the album, on February 14, 2014, a video for the single “Let Go” was released.
