HOMEMADE CLAY MASKS
Like any other masks, homemade clay masks are carried out in courses, 10 masks every other day, after which they switch to a maintenance regimen - once a week. The mineral composition of different clays allows them to solve various problems; any girl of any age and skin type will be able to choose the best option for herself.
A classic clay mask is clay diluted with water to the consistency of toothpaste, but there are many ways to enhance the effect of the clay itself using additional components. However, before making clay masks, you still need to decide on the base - which clay is most suitable for you.
Homemade Clay Hair Mask Recipes
You can prepare a healthy and effective remedy at home, having all the necessary ingredients. Recipes with white clay do not require large expenses, since mineral powder can be purchased at the pharmacy, and everything else can be found in your bins. A product made by yourself is always of higher quality and safer, and does not contain chemicals.
Important advice from the editors
If you want to improve the condition of your hair, you should pay special attention to the shampoos you use. A frightening figure - 97% of shampoos from well-known brands contain substances that poison our body. The main components due to which all the troubles on the labels are designated as sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate, coco sulfate. These chemicals destroy the structure of the curls, the hair becomes brittle, loses elasticity and strength, and the color fades.
But the worst thing is that this nasty stuff gets into the liver, heart, lungs, accumulates in organs and can cause cancer. We advise you not to use products that contain these substances. Recently, experts from our editorial team conducted an analysis of sulfate-free shampoos, where products from Mulsan Cosmetic took first place. The only manufacturer of completely natural cosmetics. All products are manufactured under strict quality control and certification systems. We recommend visiting the official online store mulsan.ru. If you doubt the naturalness of your cosmetics, check the expiration date; it should not exceed one year of storage.

BLUE CLAY
Smoothes wrinkles, fights stretch marks, cleanses, whitens, disinfects, activates cellular metabolism. The main clay in anti-aging cosmetology. It tightens the skin very well: a blue clay mask can be made on the eve of going out; it improves blood microcirculation and greatly removes fatigue and dullness. As a result, you will get a healthy glow and good, dense and rejuvenated skin.
After 33-35 years, courses of such masks are best carried out regularly, at least twice a year (I talk about this in detail in the book “Anti-Age: 30 homemade cosmetic recipes that really work”). In our country, our blue clay is sold, which is mined somewhere in the Krasnodar Territory, but the cosmetologists with whom I talked insistently advised me to get and try Breton blue clay.
It has a unique composition and is sold in pharmacies in France and Switzerland; in other countries you can try to find it on specialized websites.
GREEN CLAY
Normalizes pore function, regulates sebum secretion, good for oily skin (contains iron oxide). Green clay masks are very helpful for teenagers; such clay not only dries out acne, but also helps get rid of scars. For those whom nature has blessed with dry and sensitive skin, it is better not to mess with green clay, as it may cause irritation.
HOW TO MAKE MASKS FROM CLAY
Once you've decided on your clay, you can start thinking about what else to add to your super-effective face mask that will magically unleash your full beauty potential.
You can dilute the clay with ordinary mineral water, or you can make homemade clay masks based on other components. Try:
- fruit or berry puree (crushed strawberries in the mask will have a slight peeling effect)
- cucumber puree (very refreshing) - grind the cucumber in a blender until it becomes a homogeneous porridge, then add clay to it. An excellent base for masks for acne.
- yogurt (natural) – moisturizes and softens. Very good for sensitive skin, excellent company for red clay.
- milk (removes dead cells, moisturizes). Lactic acid retains moisture very effectively, so milk-based masks can be made both at a young age and later; it is a universal component. Try a mask made of blue clay and milk - it is very simple and very healthy, you will see the result immediately.
- honey dissolved in water or any hydrolate (flower water). Masks with honey are not recommended for those who have signs of rosacea on their face (protruding blood vessels).
- hydrolate (flower water). The properties of the selected hydrolate will enhance the effect of the mask. For example, witch hazel hydrolate + blue clay is ideal for tired, aged skin, rosemary hydrolate + green clay (practically cosmetic verses are obtained) - very good for teenage oily skin with blackheads, rose hydrolate and red clay - a great recipe for sensitive skin, etc. etc. Make sure that the hydrosol is natural, without alcohol, this is very important.
Homemade clay face mask
Homemade clay masks are an excellent alternative to store-bought products, because by combining various components at home, you can choose the optimal composition. As a rule, in addition to cosmetic clay, you will need essential oils, fresh vegetables, glycerin, etc. to create a mask.
Homemade mask options
- Moisturizing mask based on blue or white clay with the addition of fresh cucumber - removes shine and inflammation.
- Deep cleansing mask with the addition of tea tree essential oil or activated carbon (1 tablet) - fights blackheads. For a regular cleaning procedure, charcoal can be replaced with glycerin (the amount of glycerin is 10% of the total mass of the mask), soda (ratio of soda and clay 1:1), and also try the option with honey (1-1.5 tsp). Cinnamon goes well with a honey-clay mask.
- A nourishing mask is prepared with the addition of eggs (only the yolk of the egg is taken), avocado, etc.
- Anti-aging masks – clay with vitamin E, spices, lemon, etc. For example, a mask with turmeric activates metabolic processes, and lemon juice whitens.
- Firming masks are made using cosmetic clay according to your skin type. You can add green tea and coffee as a tightening component.
- A universal mask for all skin types – clay with brewer’s yeast (yeast must be diluted in warm water or milk in advance). A combination of clay, eggs (yolk) and vegetable oil (olive, shea, etc.) has a good effect on the skin.

To prepare homemade clay-based masks, you should dilute the clay with purified water until it becomes thick sour cream. Active ingredients - spices, essential oils, vitamins, etc. should make up no more than 2% of the total amount of the mask.
All other ingredients are added in such quantities that the finished mask is similar in consistency to thick sour cream.
ADDITIONAL COMPONENTS
What else can you add to your mask? Any extracts, dry ingredients, herbal decoctions, freshly squeezed juices (only with juices without fanaticism, otherwise you will get a hard peeling). Specialized stores sell active ingredients that can enhance the effect of the mask (for example, edelweiss extract), and pharmacies sell vitamins, for example, Aevit capsules. Two capsules per mask (cut them and pour the oil contents into the mask) - you get a wonderful vitamin cocktail for the skin.
Natural oils in small proportions: grape seed and almond (for oily skin), jojoba and wheat germ (for dry skin), macadmia (for aging skin). All oils must be cold-pressed, natural, unrefined, without any additives.
Masks for very dry and flaky skin can be made with flax decoction (flax mucus).
In addition to all this, those who are interested in aromatherapy can add essential oils, choosing what best suits their problems.
PREPARING A MASK
The mask is mixed in a porcelain bowl, especially if essential oils are added to the composition, stirred with a porcelain or wooden spatula (if you add esters, you cannot stir the mask with a metal spoon).
Before applying the mask to your face and neck, you need to prepare your skin:
- You can remove makeup using a scrub - then the skin will be better prepared for the mask.
- wipe your face with tonic. Hydrolates are an excellent alternative to store-bought tonics, diluted dry red wine (especially after thirty) or diluted vegetable or fruit juice. You can make a decoction of herbs: sage (my favorite herb), chamomile, mint, St. John's wort - these are all good natural tonics
If you have dry or normal skin, then after toner, apply a little cream to your face to protect the skin from stretching when the mask dries. If you add oils to the mask, you don’t have to do this - the clay will dry more slowly.
Another option is to add a little glycerin to the mask (sold at any pharmacy), it will protect the skin from drying out, or you can cover the mask on top with cling film (making holes in it for the mouth and nose), this is what cosmetologists sometimes do to protect the skin from contraction.

Anti-wrinkle
In the stubborn fight against wrinkles, the blue healing mass is irreplaceable. Blue healing mixtures with the addition of:
- Dried flowers. Chamomile, sage, lavender, linden are famous for the beneficial properties of their flowers. If you take the dried flowers of these plants (2 tsp), chop them, pour boiling water, you will get a healing decoction. By combining it with the blue dry substance, you will get a nutritious mixture that helps fight wrinkles around the eyes.
- Cocoa, drops of vitamin preparation Aevit. Blue dry substance (2 tablespoons) is mixed with half a teaspoon of cocoa. A couple of drops of the drug Aevit are added to the resulting mass. The mask is applied to the face in two layers.
APPLYING A MASK
Homemade clay masks are applied from the BOTTOM UP, along the massage lines; it is best to use a large flat brush, but you can also use your fingers or a spatula.
Face and décolleté: if you have oily skin on your face, then most likely the composition for your face and neck should be different; do not apply a green clay mask to your neck, it will dry out the skin. If there is no such critical difference, then you can use the same composition for both the face and neck and décolleté.
Homemade clay masks are left on for 10-15 minutes; it is better not to wait until they begin to dry out and crack, but to remove them earlier. There is no need for fanaticism - an overexposed mask is harmful. But if, nevertheless, you are distracted and at the exit you have your face covered in shards of dried clay, then under no circumstances rip it off: first soak the clay with warm water, then gently remove it with a cotton swab.

How often can you make a mask?
According to reviews from practicing users, the procedures should not be done often - 2-3 times a week is enough. To improve the effect, alternation is recommended.
Recipes for aging facial skin
The question of how many times a week you can make a clay face mask, under what conditions and why we have already discussed. We suggest moving on to practical tips and homemade recipes:
- It is better to apply any composition to cleansed skin (before use, clean with a scrub, leaving the area around the eyes free.
- Keep for 5 to 15 minutes (depending on skin type).
- You need to rinse off with warm water . The effect is improved by contrast rinsing (alternating temperature, contrast no more than 30 degrees).
- Choose a composition based on your skin type.
- Mix the components and prepare the composition preferably using wooden, clay or ceramic utensils .
You should know that clay procedures do not depend on the number of years, you can start using them at any age and they can also be done at any time, preferably before problems arise.
Which clay is best to make a face mask from?
Please note that how long to keep a clay mask on your face directly depends on the type of skin:
- dry – up to 5 minutes;
- fatty – up to 15 minutes;
- combined – up to 10 minutes.
SKIN CARE AFTER THE MASK
There is no need to wash your face copiously after the mask; once you have washed off all the food, remove any remaining clay with tampons, carefully, along the massage lines. After the mask, the face and neck are wiped again with tonic or decoction, after which a thickly nourishing cream or oil mixture is applied.
Advanced users can make a massage oil mixture (2-3 base oils plus essential oils) and finish the procedure with a facial massage (if you have the patience for regular treatments of this type, you will achieve amazing results at minimal cost). Then the face is blotted with a napkin to remove excess cream or oil.
It is a good idea to wipe oily skin with mineral water with lemon juice or astringent infusions - oak bark, sage. Then apply a nourishing cream, but not in such a thick layer as in the case of normal or dry skin.
With some skill, the entire procedure takes about 20 minutes, and is quite doable under normal field conditions at home. I know it’s hard to force yourself to spend a whole 20 minutes on this during your evening shower, when you only have enough energy for basic self-care, but the result, believe me, is worth it.
