Alister: Eyeliner tone 05 “Blue” Lavera

The ideal pencil for mucous membranes - what is it?

A good pencil that can be used to line the mucous membrane of the eyelid should have the following qualities:

  1. Have a delicate creamy texture . Hard regular pencils for eyes and eyebrows are not suitable in this case; they can scratch the mucous membrane and lead to dangerous consequences - wounds, inflammation.
  2. Easy to apply . Ideally, drawing should be as fast as possible; the line should be drawn in one movement.
  3. Water resistance . Only in this case will the pencil stick to the mucous membrane and not be washed off by tears.
  4. Have a safe composition . Any caustic substances will irritate the eyes.

You should also pay attention to the amount of pigments . A light, almost transparent pencil in this area will not create the desired effect. Choose a densely pigmented one that will create a dark or, conversely, bright light line.

Good brands and manufacturers

Products of this kind are produced by all well-known cosmetic companies, so finding the best option is not difficult. Many factors influencing the choice do not allow us to indicate a clear favorite among well-known companies.

  • Glide-on 24/7 Eye Pensil, Chaos, Urban Decay - waterproof pencil, lasts for 24 hours. The composition includes cottonseed oil and jojoba oil. The colors are very rich, the collection includes both natural and exotic shades.

Eye pencils Glide-on 24/7 Eye Penсil

  • Slim Eye Pensil, NYX is a hard pencil, dries very quickly and is practically impossible to shade. Ideal for creating thin, clear contours. The color palette contains both basic and decorative tones.
  • Feline Blacks, 01, Helena Rubinstein - medium hard lead, provides very bright, intense color the first time. It fits perfectly on the skin, washes off easily, and comes in a variety of shades.
  • Colossal Kajal, Maybelline is not what is called a hard pencil, but its specific oily composition allows you to draw equally thin and clear lines both on the outside and on the inside of the lash line. In fact, the option combines the qualities of a kajal pencil and a regular pencil.
  • Perfect, Sisley is a double-sided pencil: on one side there is the actual eyeliner, on the other there is a sponge for shading. It does not give a thick line, so it will not be possible to achieve a smoky effect, but it is quite possible to soften an overly sharp contour. Stable for 6–8 hours.
  • ArtDeco – option with glitters. The solid automatic pencil creates an eye-catching, shimmery outline. The color palette includes a wide variety of shades.

ArtDeco eye pencils

  • Quicklinker For Eyes, Clinigue is one of the most durable pencils. Not afraid of touch, practically does not spread under the influence of sebum. The contour will be precise and intense in color. The disadvantage is that it is really difficult to wash it off; the best way to do this is to use makeup remover milk.
  • Le Stylo Yeux, Guerlain is a medium-hard option, even close to soft, but is used for both oily and dry skin. Intense contour color is achieved by applying 2 layers. The eyeliner is touch-resistant and lasts for 10 hours. You can find a soft eyeliner here.
  • Crayon Knol Terrybly is a waterproof pencil with a shimmer effect. Creates an exceptionally precise and fine line. Several basic and exotic shades are available. The product is applied very easily, does not spread, and the color does not lose intensity. The set includes a sharpener.

Definition of eyeliner

A thin dark line along the ciliary edge of the eyelid visually enlarges the eyes. This method has been used since ancient times and has not lost its relevance to this day. True, they now prefer to use not liquid clay or dubious fat-based compounds, but a completely modern product - eyeliner.

History of eyeliner use

In its composition and shape, it strongly resembles a regular drawing pencil: colored lead and body.

Composition of the lead of a contour solid eye pencil

Lead – since you need to “draw” on the skin, and not on paper, its composition is, of course, different:

  • wax is an essential component of the product. The wax hardens on the skin and forms a waterproof film, which protects the skin from moisture loss and does not allow the drawn contour to blur. Wax - beeswax, candelilla, carnauba, determines the degree of durability and hardness of the result;
  • cyclopentaxyloxane – silicone, well compatible with waxes, prevents moisture loss. Silicone is lighter, so its addition ensures that the skin under the contour does not feel sticky or tight;
  • castor oil – the presence of fats in cosmetic products is absolutely necessary. Human skin is covered with sebum, and if this kind of component is missing from a cosmetic product, it dries out and becomes irritated. Castor oil is the most hypoallergenic option and, in addition, has a high viscosity;
  • polyethylene and polybutene - hardeners. Absolutely safe neutral polymers ensure quick hardening of the line and prevent its spreading;
  • isononyl isononanoate – a substance that provides the initial viscosity of the composition, which, in fact, allows you to draw lines on the skin;
  • butylparaben is a preservative that guarantees the absence of pathogenic microflora. This does not change the rules for storing a pencil: with a closed cap and in a special cup.
  • cetyl palmitate is a palm oil derivative that acts as a thickener and has wound-healing properties;
  • Ozokerite is a mineral substance similar in quality to paraffins and serves as a stabilizer for the entire composition. It determines the stability of the result;
  • in addition, the composition includes appropriate dyes. Sometimes vitamins are also introduced here, but they are of little benefit.

The body is preferably wooden, rather than made from sawdust by pressing. This option is stronger. A wooden case is preferable to a plastic one because it has higher antiseptic properties, so that the growth of bacteria is excluded. You can choose a lip pencil using the link.

Eyeliner with wooden body

The plastic body is attractive because it allows you to extend the rod to a sufficient height and does not require sharpening. However, this form is only possible for a relatively soft lead.

From an environmental point of view, a wooden case is better. Plastic is difficult to recycle, while wood decomposes naturally.

A hard pencil differs from all other forms - soft, liquid, low in wax and fat. This allows you to apply a very fine, crisp line to the edges of your eyelids. In addition, the solid composition is less susceptible to the action of natural sebum, so the eyeliner does not smear or turn into a dark spot after a couple of hours. However, it is quite difficult to draw thick “arrows” with it, and even more so it will not be possible to use the product as shadows. You can find eyeliner shadows here.

The difference between a hard pencil and a soft one

A hard pencil should be used with caution. The thin sharpened tip can even scratch delicate skin, so it is not advisable to use it to outline the contour of the eye from the inside, along the inner edge of the eyelid. Soft and fatty formulations are more suitable for this. You can choose a pencil for the inner eyelid in this material.

A hard lead allows you to apply a thin and clear line, which is not at all easy to correct. So a hard pencil is the choice of “professionals”, and beginners are better off starting with a soft lead.

Hypoallergenic

If you have very sensitive eyes or wear contact lenses, you need to take care that the pencil does not cause irritation.

To find out how your skin will react to a particular pencil, study the composition: it should contain as few complex, unpronounceable chemical names as possible. It is ideal if the packaging contains the inscription: “tested under the supervision of ophthalmologists” or “passed ophthalmological control.” Draw a line on your hand and wait a while: if the pencil does not cause discomfort or redness, you can safely buy it. And, of course, it is necessary to check the expiration date - expired cosmetics can cause enormous harm to health!

Alister: Eyeliner tone 05 “Blue” Lavera

Eye pencils appear in my makeup bag extremely rarely, unless we are talking about black color. The fact is that I line my eyes faster and better with shadows than with a pencil. In addition, in order to draw a clear arrow with a pencil, you first need to sharpen it, and this is still a waste of money. Shadows in this case are also more affordable. However, sometimes I succumb to shopaholism and buy another pencil out of curiosity and experiment. And my next experiment was the Lavera pencil in the shade 05-blue.

Eyeliner tone 05 Blue Lavera - review by Ecoblogger Alister

The pencil really turned out to be soft, as the manufacturer promised, and despite its softness, it did not break either when sharpening or while drawing. This is a big plus for him, because I think everyone had a soft pencil that broke off as soon as you pressed it to your eye.

The pencil draws easily, smoothly and without pellets, leaving behind a clear, pigmented line.

The pencil has a pearlescent dark blue finish. The base is, I would say, black, into which blue sparkling minerals were introduced. Therefore, under different lighting and with different renderings, it will play with color. Until the light hits it, it appears a demure dark blue, almost black color, but as soon as it catches the light, a bright blue color immediately appears.

The soft texture of the pencil allows it to be used both on the eyelid itself and for drawing the mucous membrane. While drawing the mucous membrane, it does not scratch or create any discomfort. In addition, as the manufacturer claims, the pencil is hypoallergenic and has passed dermatological and ophthalmological tests, which allows its use even on the most sensitive eyes. I can’t check this, my eyes are not the most sensitive, so I can only believe

Well, now I suggest you look at my make-up experiments with this pencil

Well, let's start with the classics, perhaps with a simple arrow.

Eyeliner tone 05 Blue Lavera - review by Ecoblogger Alister

In daylight it looks quite modest, which makes it wearable in everyday makeup. As you can see, the pencil draws evenly, without pellets and quite clearly.

Next, I tried to draw a shaded arrow.

Eyeliner tone 05 Blue Lavera - review by Ecoblogger Alister

The pencil is easy to shade, which makes it suitable even for makeup beginners. In my opinion, and what’s more, from my own experience, it’s also great for daytime makeup. Of course, I don’t work in an office, I’m a creative person, so for me this make-up is quite modest, but you decide for yourself

Next, I wanted some variety and I drew a gradient arrow.

Eyeliner tone 05 Blue Lavera - review by Ecoblogger Alister

In this case, I first drew the tail of the arrow with black eyeliner, and then completed the missing line from the inner corner of the eye with a pencil. Here you can already observe how the pencil plays with artificial bright light. The color is already deeper, richer and more pearlescent.

You can observe the same play of light when drawing the mucous membrane.

On the right, the pencil looks completely black, and on the left, it caught rays of light and sparkled with a blue tint.

Well, the last experiment for today is evening makeup.

Eyeliner tone 05 Blue Lavera - review by Ecoblogger Alister

Here I have already firmly applied the pencil along the lower eyelid and shaded it. In this version, the pencil also blends well without stretching the skin.

Eyeliner tone 05 Blue Lavera - review by Ecoblogger Alister

This pencil has such a perfect blue shade that, in my opinion, is perfect for any eye color and any color type. This is just the blue that won’t look vulgar and clown-like

Eyeliner tone 05 Blue Lavera - review by Ecoblogger Alister

In terms of longevity, on my oily eyelid it does show a slight mark on my upper eyelid. However, this does not bring me any discomfort, because the print looks like a shadow, which is usually drawn in the crease of the eyelid to add depth to the look. But with the fixing base everything is already tip-top
