Hygienic manicure - what is it?
Manicure is a cosmetic procedure that focuses on the correction of nails and fingers. You can take care of them both in specialized beauty salons and at home. The procedure for performing a manicure makes it possible to maintain the health and beauty of your fingers and nails. We need a manicure procedure so that the nail plates acquire the required shape and equal length, and also to remove cracks and hangnails and eliminate nicks on the nails.
Before a manicure in the salon, the master will suggest steaming your hands in special baths with soapy water. Then he will treat each of your nails. He will file them, straighten them, remove or push back the cuticles.
The specialist will treat the nail plates with cosmetic oil to prevent cracks from appearing on them, and the hygienic manicure process will be completed with a hand massage.
What is used for the hygienic manicure procedure?
We present a basic list of necessary funds:
- bath with soapy water. You can add liquid scented soap, a few drops of essential oil to the water, and decorate it with flower petals;
- disinfectant. Used to disinfect hand surfaces;
- nail clippers or nail scissors. You can use one or both types of tools. To remove cuticles, you need to use scissors with rounded edges;
- nail files. The types and number of nail files may vary. If you have a multifunctional nail file that has sides for polishing, filing, and adding shine to your nails, then it will be enough. If there is no such file, then different types of files are used;
- cosmetic oil for nails. It provides the necessary minerals, vitamins and protects nails from splitting;
- nail polish removers that do not contain acetone. Allows you to remove old varnish;
- lemon juice. Used to whiten, shine and polish nails. You can also use regular chalk;
- orange stick. In some cases, the cuticle is not removed with scissors, but is pushed back with a stick;
- nail polish. Before covering the nails with decorative varnish, use a base varnish to protect the nail plates, and then use a fixing varnish;
- hand cream. Used to protect the delicate skin of the hands and for massage;
- towel. It is necessary to dry your hands after taking a bath;
- cotton wool, cotton pads and sticks.
What tools and materials do you need to buy?
The starting capital must cover all the necessary equipment, furniture, tools and materials. On average, the investment amount ranges from 15 to 50 thousand rubles. – it all depends on the level and quality of the products you choose. There is no point in saving - it is better to save up the required amount and purchase a quality one that will last you for many years. You may have to take out a loan or buy tools in installments - there is always a way out of the situation.
First of all, you will need hand tools and electrical appliances for a hygienic manicure.
- Nail scissors. You will need these little helpers for big tasks at the beginning of each procedure. With their help, you can give the primary shape to your nails, treat the cuticle and pre-nail areas. There are several types of scissors for different tasks - they differ in the shape of the blades and handles, sharpness and level of strength. Give preference to all-metal products without plastic or wooden elements that may not withstand heat treatment in a sterilizer.
- Files and buffs. These tools are used for final filing, giving nails the desired shape, as well as polishing and buffing their surface before applying a decorative coating. Their assortment is dizzying - modern files differ from each other in size, material, shape, length and level of hardness. The main guideline when choosing is the abrasiveness indicator. The higher it is, the more delicate the file is. For example, 60–80 grit is suitable for filing artificial nails, 240–400 is an ideal choice for sanding, and 900–1200 is ideal for mirror polishing.
- Sticks and pushers. They are designed to push back the cuticle and can be wooden, plastic or metal. Orange sticks are deservedly the most popular. With their help, you can create a classic or European unedged manicure without injuries or cuts. Please note that they are disposable and must be disposed of after each client.
- Tweezers for manicure. Used for delicate tasks, such as removing splinters or laying out decorative elements. Made from durable and strong surgical steel.
- Wire cutters. Indispensable for classic edged manicure, they guarantee an accurate and clean cut. With their help, you can get rid of excess skin in the cuticle area and side ridges and prepare your nails for coating.
- Brush. An indispensable accessory for removing dust that forms while working with files and buffs. Give preference to products with artificial soft bristles.
- Cutters and attachments for hardware manicure. Made from steel or ceramics. You only need them if you have mastered hardware technology and purchased the appropriate equipment. With their help, you can quickly and safely remove old coating, file extended nails and process cuticles.
In recent years, coating nails with gel polish has become increasingly popular. It is durable, beautiful and resistant to mechanical damage. The main thing is to follow technology and use only high-quality materials. The right set of cosmetics will help you create a gorgeous manicure that will delight your clients for up to four weeks without chipping or peeling. It must certainly include:
- degreaser and dehydrator. They are applied to the buffed surface of the nails to remove traces of sebum and also to prevent moisture from getting under the coating;
- primer It forms a sticky film that ensures reliable adhesion of the plate to the base. Depending on the composition, it can be acidic or acid-free. The first option is more universal and is suitable even for sensitive skin. The acidic product helps open the scales of the nail plate, but can cause irritation if it comes into contact with the skin;
- base. It can be transparent or camouflage with a natural pink or beige tint. Some of the most popular are rubber bases with a self-leveling effect. They have a thick texture and are perfect for beginners;
- gel polish Stock up on the most popular shades - a few pastels, red, burgundy, black and pink are enough to start;
- top It is better to give preference to a product without a sticky coating. It protects the manicure and creates an even coating. It can be glossy or matte;
- cuticle oil. It is applied at the end of the procedure and will be a pleasant bonus for your clients.
You shouldn’t buy a whole suitcase of cosmetics at once. After all, you are unlikely to have a large flow of clients from the first days of work, and the products tend to deteriorate over time. First, practice on friends, relatives and acquaintances. Soon your manicure arsenal will begin to grow and gel polishes will no longer fit on your desktop.
You won’t be able to limit yourself to tools, equipment and cosmetics – disposable materials constitute a separate expense item. For example, towels, napkins, disinfectant sprays, cotton pads and Kraft bags.
Professional furniture and electrical equipment will help create comfort in the workplace. Don’t skimp on buying a manicure table and chairs with a comfortable back (for yourself and the client), install good lighting and hoods. A modern manicure vacuum cleaner will not only get rid of nail particles and old coating in a timely manner, but will also protect your lungs from dust.
One of the main devices is a sterilizer. Ideally, a dry-heat oven or autoclave. They destroy all kinds of microorganisms under the influence of high temperatures. You need to place tools there, sealing them in special craft bags. They must be printed in the presence of the client. You will also need an ultrasonic bath for pre-cleaning.
The ultraviolet lamp deserves special attention. Choose a device with high power - the coating in it will dry faster. You might like paraffin baths and wax melts. They allow you to provide additional hand care procedures and earn more. But a novice master can do without them, especially in the first months of work.
Hygienic manicure at home
Ungroomed nails and fingers do not make anyone look good. Any woman should take care of her hands. Every week you need to do a hygienic manicure. Let's look at the following steps step by step:
- Hand sanitization process. For this purpose, antiseptic agents are used, which are purchased in cosmetics departments.
- Removing old varnish. You should get rid of it before steaming your pens using a cotton swab dipped in nail polish remover.
Treatment of nail plates. Using a nail file, you need to give your nails the required shape and length. Dry nails cannot be trimmed with nail clippers or scissors, but can only be filed. It is important to remember that correct filing is a movement from the corner of the nail to its center. If your tool is not very good, then you should file your nails only in one direction to avoid delamination of the nail plates. If cuts or wounds appear on the skin, you must use hydrogen peroxide.- Taking a bath. Use warm water with liquid soap dissolved in it. Lather some water, soak your hands in it for 5-10 minutes, and then use a towel.
- Cuticle treatment. You can remove the cuticle using scissors, a special solution, or using an orange stick to push it back.
- Nail treatment. At this stage, the nails are cleaned of dirt, rough skin and hangnails are removed.
- Polishing nails. This procedure should be done one to two times a month.
- Hand massage. A cream, preferably enriched with calcium, is applied to the fingers, skin of the hands and nails, which will nourish your nails. The massage involves stroking and alternately kneading each finger, hand, and wrist.
- Hand cleansing. It is necessary to wash your hands again in soapy water and dry them.
- Coating the nail plates with varnish. On polished, smooth and even nails, apply a base varnish, and then a colored varnish and a fixing varnish.
How to do a hygienic manicure. Video lessons and photo instructions
Hygienic manicure is not only the ability to cut your fingernails correctly, but also regularly maintaining the impeccable appearance of your fingers using a set of special procedures for the nail plates and periungual skin. A hygienic manicure can be done easily and quickly at home, having in your arsenal a set of high-quality manicure tools with good sharpening of all cutting edges. With the help of these tools, procedures such as the safe removal of overgrown pterygium and keratinized cuticle, grinding and polishing the surface of the nail plates, giving the nails the same length and desired shape, and processing the periungual and lateral ridges are performed.
If you constantly take care of the health of your nails, then your fingers will always look well-groomed and beautiful. Well-groomed and healthy nail plates will ideally adhere to any decorative coating with a sophisticated modern design. A hygienic manicure will help you prevent the appearance of hangnails on your nail folds, and your nails will never be brittle or peeling. The most popular methods of home nail care include: classic (trimmed) manicure, European (untrimmed) manicure, hardware manicure and SPA manicure. ♦ HOW TO DO A HYGIENIC MANICURE AT HOME Before starting the procedure, make sure that your nails are completely free of the remnants of the old manicure. If coating particles still remain, you can remove them with nail polish remover. ❶ Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and disinfect your fingers with an antiseptic. We also disinfect manicure instruments with a special liquid or in a sterilizer;
❷ First, we choose the shape for our nails, taking into account the physiological characteristics of the palms, fingers and nail bed. Do not leave the free edge of the nail plates too long if your nails are too brittle and thin. Using manicure scissors, we trim the length of the nails, focusing on the shortest of them. We shape the free edge of each nail using a glass or ceramic file (we do not use metal files for processing natural plates, so as not to cause delamination). Move the nail file in one direction to avoid jagged or cracked nails;
❸ To strengthen the nail plates, as well as soften the keratinized skin of the cuticle and nail folds, we will make a bath with warm water. Pour warm water into a wide container and add 1 teaspoon of seaweed, 2 teaspoons of lemon juice, 2-3 drops of iodine. Keep your fingers in the bath for about 10 minutes. Then wipe your hands dry with a soft towel;
❹ Now we will get rid of the overgrown cuticle and pterygium film on the nails. If you have very delicate and thin skin on your fingers, then it is best to use the European manicure method, treating the dead skin with a remover and removing the remaining skin particles on your nails with an orange stick;
❺ But you can get rid of the cuticle using the classic method (trimmed manicure). For this procedure, you will need a pusher, with the spatula of which we push the keratinized skin to the base of the nail, and then remove it with a trimmer or scissors with narrow blades. If your arsenal of manicure tools includes special cuticle nippers (or narrow tweezers), then you can perform this procedure with their help;
❻ To make the surface of our nails smooth and even, we sand it with a wide manicure file. First, take a medium-hard file to remove all grooves, stripes and other irregularities. Then we polish the nails with a file with a fine abrasive so that they become smooth. We perform all movements in one direction;
❼ After sanding, take a polishing buff and give your nails a glossy shine. Polishing will transform your nails so much that you can completely refuse a decorative manicure;
❽ All that remains is to apply a little softening oil to the treated cuticle and rub it into the delicate skin to prevent the appearance of hangnails and cracks. ♦ VIDEO LESSONS FOR BEGINNERS
