This loss came as a shock to many. The actress and director hid a terrible disease - stomach cancer - until the very end. Doctors fought for her life for two years, but were unable to save her. Vera Glagoleva died on August 16, 2017. On the eve of the anniversary, friends told StarHit how she changed their destinies.

“I met Vera as a child,” says actress Alena Babenko. “I remember my mother turned on the film “About You,” and she was singing there... She got so excited by her voice that she started tearing her tights. Mommy was cursing, and I seemed to be under hypnosis... Many years later, Vera invited me to star in the film “Ferris Wheel.” I didn’t even really look at the script, I only thought about meeting my idol. During rehearsals, I was literally imbued with her femininity, which manifested itself in every detail: in gestures, in the manner of communication, in style. She did not part with the phone, it was constantly ringing. I remember a strange dialogue: someone called her in a panic, complaining about a broken tap. She stepped aside several times and explained to her interlocutor how to fix it. Imagine, she, an elegant blonde, knew about such things!”

Glagoleva, despite her busy schedule, always found time for her family, which was her support and rear.

“Once at the premiere, Vera gave a book of her dad’s poems - she collected them all and published a collection,” continues Babenko. — I really liked the idea. Returning home, I asked my father to write memoirs about his life. Then she secretly released the book and handed it to him!”

One of the director’s closest friends was Marina Mogilevskaya; they were friends for about 15 years.

“Vera always knew how to be there when someone was having a hard time. For example, thanks to her, my pregnancy became the most interesting period of my life,” the actress shares with StarHit. “She didn’t let me get lost in the experience, because giving birth at the age of 40 is a responsible and risky step. All the time I took her to Zhvanetsky’s concerts, then to Spivakov’s, then to poetry evenings... When Mashenka appeared, she loved to give her beautiful things. My daughter still wears these dresses. One day we arranged a photo shoot “Masha in Vera’s outfits” and sent it to her. She, of course, appreciated our joke!”

Glagoleva loved not only to give gifts, but also to educate her friends, and recommended books and films. “We miss her very much,” adds Marina. – I often open mail. Vera constantly sent interesting articles, and then we could discuss them on the phone for hours. Two days before Verochka passed away, I received an email with the traditional postscript: “Be sure to check it out!” There was a link to the film “The Box” by the young director Eduard Bordukov. Vera did not lose interest in what was happening around her until the very end. Her place in my life is now empty, and it is unlikely that anyone will take it..."

The daughters of Vera Glagoleva still have not come to terms with the fact that their mother is no longer alive. Anna Nakhapetova and Nastasya Shubskaya left touching posts dedicated to their relative on their pages on social networks.

Vera Glagoleva hid her illness. No one could believe that the director had cancer, because at the beginning of last summer she had fun at Nastasya’s wedding with Alexander Ovechkin. However, despite the efforts of doctors, the star still could not overcome cancer.

Tough Vera Glagoleva

The actress has not eaten meat for 15 years

On the occasion of such a wonderful anniversary - two A's - we couldn't help but talk with the hero of the occasion herself. Vera GLAGOLEVA, with her characteristic elegance of expressing thoughts, answered our correspondent’s questions.

— How do you usually celebrate birthdays? Are there any family traditions?

— We don’t invite numerous friends and don’t organize lavish celebrations. I don’t see the point in toasts and praises. I love gifts, but I don’t order them in advance. The good ones are the ones you don't expect. The most touching gift I was given was when we celebrated my birthday with friends in the mountains of Switzerland several years ago. We were sitting on the veranda of the restaurant, and then a dot appeared on the horizon of the snow-covered lake. As she approached, we realized that it was my friend coming and carrying a living tree, a huge rhododendron bush. White snow and bright scarlet flowers - the scene, like in a movie, is unforgettable. For many years I have simply gone abroad. We used to visit South Africa often. It has become almost a tradition. It is very warm there in January. And Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities. It's not safe in Africa now, which is a pity. Therefore, we will go to Europe. But for a long time.

— Your artistic role: subtle, vulnerable, but strong-willed. What roles go beyond this?

- What do you want me to say? Yes, subtle, vulnerable and strong-willed. But over time we all change, and I was different 20 years ago. Now it has become tougher.

— The external image of Vera Glagoleva is the most stable in the world.
How many years have you been wearing these bangs? From birth? — Bangs suit my face type best. I look at myself in the mirror and understand that it suits me.

— After the film “One War” about Russian women who gave birth to children from the Nazis, did you finally become convinced that you are a director? Can you say that you changed your profession?

- Yes, I'm a director. This is confirmed by numerous awards at various film festivals and audience recognition. The painting came with great difficulty. We walked towards the goal stubbornly, although everything was against us. No money was given for production, and the script was considered the best by the Ministry of Culture. Then we just miraculously got some. The work was done practically with enthusiasm. It’s very disappointing when such material is not supported, and every year I become convinced that this bureaucratic machine cannot be curtailed. All the hassle, alas, is not related to creativity, but to financial problems.

The prediction came true

- You are twice a grandmother. Do you babysit your grandchildren?

— Unfortunately, I don’t have much time. Polina, Anya's daughter, lives with us. Of course, we communicate with her. At four years old, she is a very intelligent girl with her own character.

— If someone told you in your youth that you would have three children?

“Oddly enough, one person, when I already had two children, said: “You will have three.” I was absolutely not in the mood for this, but, you see, the prediction came true. I understand how important it is when there is more than one child in a family, when children grow up in a group and can take care of each other. But I don’t consider having many children a feat.

— After 40, a toast to health is number one.
What is health for you: not drinking, not smoking, or physical activity, proper nutrition? - We must live organically! I have quite a lot of dietary restrictions. For example, I haven’t eaten meat for 15 years and I feel absolutely normal. The topic of cooking in general is not very interesting to me. I spend little time in the kitchen and cooking.

— Is life good or is it too early to sum it up?

- Well, of course, it’s early. I hope it's early. And in general, you cannot sum up the results yourself, because you are biased. It seems to you that some things succeeded, some things didn’t. But, in principle, time will tell.

Wonderful, beloved, most dear

— Why did the topic of fascist fathers and abandoned mothers, which they raised in their film “One War,” turn out to be so close to you? Is it good for festivals or were you inspired by personal life experiences?

- No, nothing personal. We didn’t think about festivals either, it’s just that this topic touches the soul. It is unusual, non-standard and understandable to people in other countries too. The film is simply permeated with the love of mothers for their children and teaches compassion.

— Your family’s life spent some time between Russia and America.

“It was so long ago and so much has been written about it.” The middle daughter Masha has been living in Russia for a long time, she got married here, she has a three-year-old son Kiryusha, but she is constantly “sent” to America, they say that it is difficult for us to communicate with her. All this data is outdated, and it is clear that when people write about this, they simply go to the Internet, where this information has not been updated for a long time. I want to say again - my child has been living in Russia for about ten years.

— Was Kiryusha named after your third husband, Kirill Shubsky?

- Why third? On the tenth, jokes aside, you know how annoying this all is... There was a first husband: Rodion Nakhapetov , a famous person, an amazing personality, a loving and caring father. Second husband - Kirill Shubsky, wonderful, beloved, dearest. That's all.

— Do you regret that you stayed to live in Russia?
- No, we never talked about going to live in America. I don’t regret it, of course, it’s my own choice.

“Now is the time to take care of the fate of the Motherland. Everything has been sold, corruption, the last remnants of conscience are disappearing. Is Russia dying?

- If you see every day that functionaries and officials are only engaged in stealing, and you hear about the blatant facts of this and confirmation of these facts, then how can you relate to this? It turns out that my Motherland, the country, is filled with people who want it to fall apart, or what? And all the time some terrible stories come up about how millions are stolen and no one is responsible for it. It’s good to love your Motherland and be a patriot, but the country should also correspond to your feelings!

— As a mother of many children, aren’t you worried about the fate of your daughters in a country of victorious undercapitalism?

- Still, when you live, you hope that something must change. The main thing is that everyone is not indifferent to the fate of their country.

— Nordic character, not known to have any discreditable connections, honest, direct, responsive. Is it difficult to live with such a character in a creative environment? Have you taken a lot of meanness?

— Honestly, I don’t really notice and don’t remember that something or someone offended me much. Time passes and you forget everything. If someone offended me, I don’t communicate with these people, it’s as if they never existed.

No problem

— What do you think about your daughters?

— Firstly, the daughters have already grown up so much, 30 years old, they are practically already established individuals. Both one and the other, and the third is already 17 years old. That is, these are completely grown-up, self-sufficient young ladies, about whom there is no need to guess what they will become. They have already achieved something, some results, and this makes me happy, like any mother. If your child has been working for almost 15 seasons at the Bolshoi Theater and appears on its stage every day, I think this is the highest achievement for a ballerina. Now the eldest Anna also starred in the film “One War” very successfully, it seems to me. Now she begins her other story as a dramatic actress. She has two performances on the stage of the Satire Theater. Thank God, I am very happy for all my daughters.

— Do you help them financially?

- Naturally, these are my children, we do everything that needs to be done. Nastasya is studying production at VGIK, and I like that she is connected with the film profession, which continues my story. Moreover, she is still not a random person who came to this profession.

— Fans probably come to see her in droves...

- Well, yes, of course, like any seventeen-year-old girl, she likes it when there are a lot of friends around. She is not closed, she is ready to communicate, she shares.

— None of your daughters wanted to bear your last name?

- But they weren’t offered it. For what? They have fathers, and what’s more, I didn’t take their husbands’ surnames. Rodion has a wonderful surname that girls should wear with dignity. Proudly. And the surname of the second husband - Kirill, Nastasya Shubskaya , is also beautiful.

— Do your daughters look like you or their dads, as is usually the case?

“I can’t say, because they are different in character, individual, thank God.” There is no need to compare them with each other, with me, they are each valuable in their character and originality.

— Does Rodion somehow participate in the fate of his daughters?

- Well, of course, with advice. They communicate. Now, with the Internet, with Skype, there are no problems. They are in contact all the time.

Thoughts are material

— You are one of the leaders of the movement of fighters against the yellow press...

- Come on, without loud epithets, but I think that the yellow newspapers brought many famous people to a bad end. Both Sasha Abdulov and Vlad Galkin , when they were simply persecuted. They will say “fas” and begin to destroy. It’s disgusting that it’s not out of conviction, but because they gave a command. They convince you that artists do their own PR, but I assure you that many absolutely do not need to get on their nerves. It’s terrible that there is no opposition and that it is impossible to fight it. Unfortunately, this goes unpunished; journalists are confident that they are right, they are confident that they have the right to destroy people with words.

- So what does it matter to you what they write about you if you are a self-sufficient person and have chosen a public profession?

-I’m not Pasternak and I don’t compare myself to him when I talk about creative personalities, but these people were able to destroy Pasternak too! The worst thing is that people of art break down when your former friends and acquaintances around you suddenly turn away from you.

— You said somewhere: “I don’t rush somewhere, I don’t try to achieve something - everything happens by itself.” Such reasoning makes one think about a rich husband, about some kind of patrons... Where do you, by the way, get money for your paintings?

— I probably said this in the early 90s, when I just started directing, then everything worked out by itself. Then there was no need to ask for money or convince anyone. People liked the script - they invested money. All. I'm talking about the film "Broken Light". Today no one needs anything. And I understand that this is an absolute wall that needs to be broken through or calm down altogether.
