How to make a New Year's and Christmas sock with your own hands, crocheted, knitted, from felt, paper, fabric: diagrams, patterns, templates. How to buy New Year's socks for gifts on Aliexpress? New Year's Eve

A sock for gifts is a popular attribute of the New Year and Christmas. The sock for gifts is related to another holiday - St. Nicholas Day, which is celebrated on December 19. Every child on this day looks for gifts in the morning under the pillow or in a sock for gifts, which you can make yourself, creating a festive mood in your home.

According to legend, the custom of hanging decorative socks for gifts appeared after the prototype of St. Nicholas, Nicholas of Myra, helped three sisters. The girls grew up in a poor family and could not hope for a dowry. Wanting to help them, a kind man threw three bags of gold into the fireplace at night, and the money ended up in three socks hung to dry in front of the fireplace. In the morning, the girls found treasures in them and were able to arrange their destiny.

How to make a sock for gifts: ideas

1. Knitted socks

To make decorative socks quickly, take old knitted socks that no one needs anymore. Paint them with paints, decorate them with ribbons, beads and appliqués. This way you can decorate new socks bought or knitted especially for the holiday.

2. Hand-sewn socks

Sewing decorative socks yourself is not difficult, but if you do not have experience and a sewing machine at home, use the simplest method. To do this you need:

Decide on the number and size of socks (one large for the whole family or several small ones). Choose a beautiful fabric with New Year's motifs (you can buy a special piece of fabric or use a kitchen towel for the New Year, any fabric with a pattern you like).

Now make a template: draw a sock of the desired size on paper. You can search for template options on the Internet - there are many ready-made patterns and models.

Attach your template to a folded piece of fabric, trace along the outline and cut out.

Before sewing the fabric, sew or glue decorative elements on both sides.

Then use neat stitches to sew the sock along the contour.

You can decorate a finished sock with lace, ribbon or green fabric on the lapel of the sock. Don't forget to attach a loop on which it will hang.

3. Paper socks

A festive sock made of paper or cardboard is very simple, and you can make it together with your child. You need to draw a sock on colored paper, cut it out and paint it, decorate it with appliqués and sparkles. You won’t put gifts in this sock, but it will become a beautiful decoration for your home for the New Year.

4. A sock made from an old sweater

An original and at the same time simple idea for creating a sock. Use a child's old sweater and sock template.

Christmas socks are made in the shape of Santa Claus's boot. But you can make different options: in the shape of oriental boots, with long toes turned up, with a small heel or bells.

You can decorate the sock with stickers with a name, pine cones, spruce branches and other attributes of the New Year and Christmas.

You can make a New Year's boot for gifts with your own hands in different ways. Get to know some of them and choose the most beautiful one. Socks for gifts are not as popular in Russia as in the West. However, we are increasingly using it not only for its intended purpose, but also simply as decoration.

We have selected for you three simple master classes on sewing a Christmas boot. The first is a simple decorative sock. The second one is denser and is suitable for gifts. The third is a boot made from a plastic bottle (you can put sweets or nice little things in it). Browse all and choose any. In the article you will also find the necessary patterns and stencils.

Patterns

A New Year's boot can be made from felt, fleece, as well as from quilted or any other dense fabric. Whatever you choose, you will need a pattern. Below are sock templates for Santa Claus (print them or just draw them).

Choose the template you need. You will need it for two of the three workshops offered below.

Method number 1: decorative sock

This New Year's boot is not intended for gifts. It can be made single or double and certainly decorated with applique. A felt sock looks best. Fleece is softer, so you can additionally thicken it with cardboard or a double layer of fabric. You can also use velvet, velor, thick cotton fabric.

To decorate a New Year's boot, take felt, fleece, floss or yarn, beads, and ready-made patches.

We advise you to take a look at our “Stencils” section – in it you will find a selection of different templates with New Year’s characters. They will be useful to you for creating applications. You can simply print them out and cut them out first from paper and then from fabric. Or take it as a basis and just draw it.

Watch this simple video tutorial that clearly shows how to make a decorative Christmas stocking with your own hands.

Use it as a support and come up with your own design.

Here are some ideas for different DIY New Year's boots. Use them for inspiration or just repeat them.

Use acrylic paints and white thread to embroider and apply the design to the sock.

Place the two patterns together and make a decorative seam along the edge (mark in advance). Decorate the boot with pom-poms.

Cut out several decorative elements from felt or fleece using templates and sew them to the outside of the Christmas stocking. Complete with beads, rhinestones and decorative buttons.

Make a sock pattern using an unwanted sweater or scarf. Decorate with Santa Claus made from a cotton pad, a piece of felt and a hat (use the same fabric for it). Don't forget to add white trim and sew on buttons. You can decorate the sock with embroidery.

These are just a few options, you can choose any of them. It is not necessary to make a double decorative Christmas stocking – a single one will do just fine.

Any of these crafts can decorate a door, Christmas tree, windows, or simply hang on the walls on the eve of the New Year.

Method number 2: sock for gifts

The New Year's boot for gifts needs to be sewn thicker so that it is reliable. Use the patterns suggested above. Take them as a basis, but the sewing technique will be a little more complex than in the first master class.

Choose a suitable thick fabric (you can find interesting decorative options in the creativity departments). Choose a filler. Batting, thin padding polyester or even fleece will do.

We cut out two identical blanks for the New Year's sock according to the template. Also use these stencils to make two pieces for the lining (those from which you will sew the inside of the boot).

The filling can only be sewn to the front part of the sock, because the decor will be located on it.

Sew the loop right away. First, cut out a rectangular piece from the fabric, then fold the ends inward, iron and fold in half.

Fold the front of the sock and the filling together. Sew around 0.5 cm from the edge.

Place the lining piece with the right side facing you. Sew the loop, retreating approximately 2-3 cm from the edge on the heel side.

Then repeat the procedure for the second inner (the loop is sewn to it) and the second outer part of the sock. Place them with the right sides facing you, and then sew along the top (the seam should also be inside).

Take two blanks and straighten them so that the outer part (the part that will be visible when the sock is ready) is on the inside.

Sew the parts around the entire perimeter using a machine. Step back about 1 cm from the edge. Don't forget to leave a hole in the lining so that the sock can be turned inside out.

On the rounded parts of the toe (or around the entire perimeter), make small notches in the form of zigzags or triangles. This is necessary so that the inverted boot does not puff up due to the gathered fabric.

Turn out the New Year's stocking and mend the hole through which you did this. Then tuck the lining into the boot. There you go!

Decorate the resulting New Year's stocking with any stripes, appliqués or three-dimensional figures of Christmas characters - sew or glue them. Complete the craft with fur, pom-poms, sparkles, rhinestones and other decor.

Method number 3: boot from a plastic bottle

Instead of hanging Santa's boot from the fireplace or on the wall, you can simply place it under the tree. Place a gift or something delicious in it. In addition, this stable sock can be placed on a festive table and made into a vase, napkin holder or “hat” for forfeits.

We invite you to watch this simple video master class, in which the author talks in detail about how to make a New Year's shoe from a bottle with your own hands. Repeat the step-by-step process using the same materials. Everything is shown very clearly, so you definitely can’t go wrong.

The Christmas stocking is a popular home decoration during the holiday season. You can purchase it in a store or make it yourself using the interesting tips in this article.

The tradition of hanging New Year's stockings on the fireplace

is not new and has roots going back to ancient times.
One version claims that this part of the wardrobe was hung on the fireplace only by the poor part of the population.
People hoped that magical power

(in the person of a bishop, an elf, Nikolai Ugodnik - it doesn’t matter)
will help them get rich on Christmas night.
This could happen on purpose or by accident
by throwing gold coins and gifts through the chimney.
Of course, all this is a beautiful dream of those people who wanted to get money quickly and unexpectedly. But, nevertheless, the poor did not lose hope that in this way they could give gifts to their loved ones and children, buy a Christmas wreath for the door, put a real Christmas tree in the house and roast a goose for the celebration. Over time, the tradition has not outlived its usefulness, but, on the contrary, has become a symbol of faith and hope at Christmas.

INTERESTING: In Great Britain, the tradition of hanging stockings on the fireplace at Christmas appeared in the 19th century under Queen Victoria. It has a very funny explanation: while making his way through the chimney (this is how he gets into the house), Santa Claus caught on the socks that were drying on the fireplace. Thus, there were a couple of coins and small items left in it as gifts for people.

There is no way a large present will fit into a Christmas stocking. That is why it is customary to put all sorts of pleasant little things in it.

: money, jewelry, sweets, key rings, keys - whoever has enough imagination for what.

Modern people can hang such decor not only on the fireplace

(which very often simply does not exist in modern apartments), but also on furniture, walls, railings, doors, even the Christmas tree.
a Christmas sock in a store, or you can make it yourself
from textiles, felt or paper.

The sock can be decorated

embroidery with threads, sequins, applique, stripes, fur and tinsel.
You are free to sew a sock of any size
and attach it anywhere.
This little thing perfectly complements the New Year's home decor
, gives a positive mood and symbolizes the New Year holidays.

Master class: how to sew a sock for gifts

Sewing a sock for gifts is not difficult at all. Of course, if you are a perfectionist and like everything to be perfect, then sewing will take you a little longer. The main part of the work is to think over the “decor”.

Here is a simple version made from fabric in two colors with trim and decorative braid.

Sock for the New Year: master class

What you will need:

  • fabric for the base: dense is most often used to better hold its shape. For example, coarse flax. But you can take any one + make a padding polyester lining.
  • fabric for edging the top of the sock
  • lining fabric + padding polyester (optional)
  • lace braid and zigzag braid for decoration.

Progress

1. Using the pattern below, cut out the parts. You may want to make your own pattern as you will need a larger sock size (does depend on the size of the gifts though).

2. Sew a sock piece made of “finishing” fabric onto the lower part.

3. Sew on the hem. You can trim it with braid already at this step, or you can do it at the end.

4. Sew the 2 main parts of the outer part of the sock and 2 parts of the lining together.

5. Sew the lining to the outside.

This is the algorithm in a nutshell. It hardly makes sense to describe it in more detail - sewing a sock is really very simple. But if you have any questions, ask in the comments. Do not forget to sew a loop at the end of the work, by which the sock will be hung.

By the way, about hanging. Tradition tells us about a fireplace, but in our homes a fireplace can be found very rarely. Therefore, a sock for gifts can be hung anywhere, for example, on the wall near the Christmas tree or next to the balcony door (if your Santa Claus comes through the balcony :) ).

Enjoy your pre-holiday efforts!

How New Year's socks and master classes appeared

European traditions are actively penetrating the lives of Russians. We began to celebrate Valentine's Day, celebrate Halloween and call Father Christmas Santa. I don't think that's a bad thing. The exchange of experiences and rituals arouses interest and motivates the search for new interesting ideas for organizing holidays. For example, not so long ago, St. Nicholas Day was not celebrated in every family. Today is a great opportunity for moms and dads to please their children with small surprises.

In Europe and America, on St. Nicholas Day - December 19, obedient boys and girls receive a reward in special socks. They are hung over mantels or over children's beds.

According to legend, the tradition of filling socks with sweets appeared many hundreds of years ago. On the eve of the holiday, Saint Nicholas made three sisters from a very poor family happy in this way. The miracle worker helped the girls with their dowries by throwing a bag of gold into their socks to dry by the fireplace. All the sisters married successfully and lived happy lives.

Adults put gifts in modern children's socks for good behavior and just like that, wanting to please them and prolong their faith in miracles. It is appropriate to hang socks not only on the eve of St. Nicholas Day, but also on Christmas and New Year. There can never be too many miracles and gifts, so why not give your loved ones joy? I'll tell you how to make cool, bright and unusual socks with your own hands from scrap materials. Detailed master classes and photos will help you understand and repeat the lessons.

Classic Christmas boot made of fabric

Don't buy ready-made socks in the store! Make such a boot yourself, involve your child in the process, combining your efforts and imagination, because it’s so cool and not at all difficult to make small masterpieces. Let's start with a classic option - the traditional Christmas stocking.

Indicate for yourself how many units and what size you plan to make. Maybe you like the idea of sewing a sock for each family member according to the principle: the oldest one gets the biggest sock, the little one gets a miniature one with a funny design? In any case, the process will require New Year's fabric with Christmas trees, snowflakes, deer or Santa Clauses. You can replace the material with a kitchen towel of the desired theme.

Once you find the right fabric, move on to the template. Draw the sock design onto the paper. Draw it by hand in any shape you like or use a ready-made template from the Internet. Attach the pattern to the folded fabric, trace with a piece of chalk or soap and carefully cut out. Then it’s even easier - sew the product along the edges from the wrong side and turn it inside out.

Decorate the finished boot for New Year's and Christmas surprises with cuffs, lace, braid and everything else that you think is appropriate. Hang the finished socks over the fireplace or in any other suitable place using a specially sewn loop of braid.

Decorative paper sock

For the New Year, paper socks or felt boots play exclusively the role of decoration. Due to their thinness, they are not suitable for gifts, but they effectively decorate the house.

Use them to create a New Year's atmosphere and a festive mood, especially since it will take very little time to make.

Like any craft, a paper sock starts with a layout. Make one out of cardboard or thick paper, be sure to involve your child in the activity - let him practice his ability to draw, trace, and cut out. Trace the rough sock on album sheets as many times as you need finished products. Cut out and paint with bright colors, decorate with sparkles, rain and serpentine. Attach thread loops to your socks and hang them around the house.

This is how socks made of paper or felt can turn out.

Knitted boots from an old sweater

You probably have a few old, stretched sweaters lying around at home that you would hate to throw away, but are no longer comfortable to wear. This is the perfect base for Christmas boots. Prepare:

  • layout;
  • sweaters;
  • dense fabric (burlap, drape, linen are suitable);
  • scissors;
  • thread and needle.

Place the product template (can be removed directly from the sock) onto a thick fabric and trace it. Cut it out. You will prepare the base.

Next comes the knitted sweaters. Cut several strips from 5 to 7 cm wide, preferably with different patterns and different colors. Use a ruler and preferably a rotary cutter to ensure accuracy. The more different stripes you get, the more interesting the final result will be. Then continue working with the fabric base. Arrange the stripes on it the way you like so that you get a cute colorful sock, combining textures, colors and patterns of details. Sew the strips together, do not touch the part that will be eaten with the heel for now.

This is interesting: Psychology of Men in Relationships with Women

From the remaining sweater, cut out a triangle with dimensions corresponding to the parameters of the heel, sew it with stripes at the top and bottom. Finish all seams with zigzag stitches - they will not allow the loops to creep. Attach the base to the finished “knitted” New Year’s sock; the easiest way is to sew the parts together. Turn and sew the back side inside out, thus preparing a “pocket” for gifts. Adjust the shape of the sock, cutting off everything unnecessary, and turn the product right side out again.

The final touch is a loop at the top of the sock for fastening. You can do it in any way you like. This can be a hand-crocheted loop, an element of braid, or a thick knitted thread. To make the sock look more natural and cozy, add cuffs. An elastic band from a sweater is ideal for their role.

Unusual socks in the shape of fruits: bright ideas for bright people

If your soul asks for a holiday and creativity, try to move away from templates and forget about traditional New Year’s symbols for a while. I suggest making cool holiday socks for the New Year in the shape of fruits. Children will be delighted with these!

Take proven felt in bright colors as a basis: red, yellow and green. The decor is made of braid. For fastening - glue. It is convenient to work with sharp scissors and chalk.

  • Let's start with a delicious and juicy watermelon. Use red or pink and green felt. You will also need very little black material for the seeds. The decor will look great using regular white braid. So, first, cut out the base for the boot from red or pink felt. Please note that the base must be double so that the sock can be sewn or glued.

Separately, cut a loop from felt or braid. It can also be either sewn or glued. The green fabric plays the role of a watermelon rind. Cut a wide strip and glue it to the top of the sock to form a cuff. Decorate it with black “bones”. Cover the border between the flowers with white tape. The sock is ready - festive and attractive.

  • A variation on the theme, but with an exotic twist, is a pineapple-shaped sock. Why not? Among snow-covered landscapes, a sunny yellow boot for gifts fills with optimism. It’s easy to sew the product by analogy with a “watermelon”. Use deep yellow felt and some green fabric for the top. Prepare a paper layout and transfer it to double-folded felt.

To make the fruit more embossed and more natural, sew it with braid over the entire surface (with neat lines intersecting diagonally). Make the cuffs from green material and don’t forget about a strong loop. It should not fail at the most crucial moment - when it’s time to wrap the sock with gifts.

  • A strawberry sock is made according to the same principle as a pineapple or watermelon. The base is double red felt. Glue or stitch it on the sides to make a pouch. Decorate the strawberry with green leaves and white felt dots.

All three types of boots look beautiful and festive when combined. If possible, make your own “fruit” for each child. Let them guess who is who and where is whose gift!

Ice cream cone sock: a creative solution for resourceful people

What gives children joy? What do they love more than anything in the world? Of course it's ice cream! This means that New Year’s socks in the shape of a favorite treat are the best thing that adults could come up with! Making such wonderful containers for sweets and small gifts is as easy as shelling pears, all from the same felt.

Prepare a pattern for a New Year's sock, cut out a piece of beige fabric folded in half along its contours. This will be an ice cream cone. Apply diagonal lines to the surface of the sock and sew them on a machine for relief. Cut out treat balls from colored felt and decorate with colored sugar, marmalade and chocolate together with the children. These will be the cuffs. Cut out the decorative details from suitable fabrics, use a glue gun for durable and convenient fastening.

Magnetic sock for the nursery

A cool and unusual idea is a Christmas boot with a magnet. Its convenience lies in the versatility of fastening.

You can hang such a “panel” anywhere, from the nursery to the front door. This is very convenient when there is no fireplace over which to hang socks according to tradition. After the holiday is over, you can attach the magnet to the refrigerator, hide recipes, notes in a New Year's boot, or leave notes for each other. And that's not it. The “pocket” will perfectly fit pens, scissors, napkins and even household chemicals. In a word - a useful and effective thing!

  1. Cut a cardboard sock large enough to fit a gift box behind it.
  2. Cover the cardboard blank with colored napkins or pieces of fabric.
  3. On a box of suitable size, stick a soft magnet on one side and a colored sock on the other.

This is all. Then you can complement the product with a fabric base with a pattern or inscriptions, or you can leave the boot as is. If you like the first option more, then in addition to the fabric you will need thick cardboard. The base will rest on it. Cover the cardboard with fabric previously measured and cut to its size. Make an applique in the form of Christmas drawings or patterns. Leave room in the center for attaching the magnetic shoe.

Of course, these are not all options. There are also a lot of ideas with knitting socks or filigree patterns made by crochet, sewing using linen, drape, burlap.

You can simply make cool shoes from old winter coats and jackets. Particularly resourceful people make entire garlands of fabric and paper socks for children, friends and relatives.

Friends, I’ll end here, share ideas and master classes online, exchange experiences and inspire and be inspired!

Felt is good because the edges of this material do not fray, there are no threads sticking out of it, it is easily pierced with a needle, and is soft to the touch. There are two ways to sew two parts of felt patterns:

  • Seam stitch - even stitches
  • The eyelet stitch is a beautiful stitch for finishing edges.

It is necessary to make seams on the socks with contrasting threads. For example, if your sock is red, white threads will work best. Decorate the edge of the sock with a white lapel. Sew a loop on the back of the sock, with which the product is attached to the fireplace.

You can make these socks yourself from felt. Do-it-yourself socks will be used to put gifts that are also made by yourself, or other various gifts.

And to make it interesting, you can do the activity together with your children.

Making a felt sock yourself is not difficult.

Let's see how this is done visually.

Felt in 3 different colors

Thread, scissors, paper

Floss or wool thread

Let's start with the fact that we need a pattern. We attach it to A4 paper and transfer it onto paper, making it larger.

Let's prepare felt fabric. We fold it into two parts so that it is convenient to make a pattern with two halves at once.

We attach the pattern. We outline the contours with chalk.

We make decorations in the form of figures from felt of a different color.

Attach buttons (beads). Then we sew it to one half of the sock.

Some of the figures can be sheathed along the contour.

Next we sew the two halves of one sock.

This is how the sock turned out! You can sew this one by entrusting it to a child aged 5-6 years old with him.

It’s hard to imagine any other packaging for New Year’s and Christmas surprises than felt boots.

It is sewn quickly and can be decorated with all kinds of materials and using different techniques.

Felt is easy to cut and sew. It harmonizes with wool, knitting, embroidery, and felted details. It can be decorated with pompoms of all colors, fringe, plastic snowflakes and various sparkles.

The photos below show the sizes of the Christmas boots.

The bottom of the boot is made of pieces of dark red soft felt, and the top is made of smooth white. Sewn with large overlock stitches.
