For two: traveling during pregnancy

Are pregnancy and the bus compatible?

As already mentioned, pregnancy, if it proceeds without complications, is not a reason to refuse a trip. However, a bus can hardly be considered the optimal choice for an expectant mother, because a plane will take you to your destination much faster, and a train is more comfortable (if you wish, you can even lie down in it, which cannot be said about other types of transport). Unfortunately, there are cases when there is simply no alternative to the bus, and then a woman must rely solely on her own well-being and the recommendations of a doctor, who must be consulted on the eve of the trip.

It is worth keeping in mind that during certain periods of pregnancy, long trips (regardless of the choice of transport) are contraindicated. It is better not to hit the road unless absolutely necessary in the first trimester and after the 30th week, when labor can begin at any moment. Toxicosis can become a serious obstacle to travel; nausea, vomiting and dizziness on the road will only intensify, turning a multi-hour trip into a real hell.

If there is a threat of spontaneous abortion or premature birth, as well as any other threats to the health of mother and baby, it is better not to risk it and stay at home.

In cases where you do have to go on the road, you can use the following tips to ensure your comfort and safety:

  1. You should not save on a ticket if it will provide better service and better conditions.
  2. It makes sense to check in advance whether there is a toilet on the bus, and whether it will work during the trip.
  3. You need to dress in comfortable, non-restrictive clothing made from natural fabrics.
  4. To reduce the load on the veins, the legs can be smeared with Troxevasin.
  5. You should take with you a small pillow for your neck and lower back, as well as a blanket (in case the air conditioner works too hard).
  6. In addition, you must have all documents with you, including a passport, compulsory medical insurance policy (and voluntary medical insurance, if any) and an exchange card.
  7. All things that you may need on the road (and especially a first aid kit) should be taken into the cabin, since there will be no access to your luggage during the trip.
  8. Be sure to take care of a small supply of water and a snack.

It is worth understanding that if a woman did not tolerate long bus trips well before pregnancy (for example, she got motion sickness), then now the unpleasant sensations can intensify many times over. And, if under normal conditions seasickness cannot cause serious harm to health, then for the expectant mother everything is different, because she is not the only one who suffers.

Pregnancy and long trips

Are long-distance travel Of course, if the pregnancy is not accompanied by poor health and passes without complications! After all, pregnancy is not a disease that forces you to restrict movement. This is an absolutely normal condition in which travel, especially if it brings pleasure, is not only acceptable, but also necessary. After all, they are associated with a lot of impressions that are so necessary during this period for both the expectant mother and her baby.

However, traveling during pregnancy should be done wisely and in accordance with certain rules. Otherwise, they will be associated with considerable risk, and this, of course, is better to avoid. What are these rules?

Let's start with the preparatory moments. When getting ready to travel, you shouldn’t put yourself in a negative mood and collect information about what can happen while traveling. This will create unnecessary fears and, as a result, the trip, although attractive, may turn into a nightmare.

It is advisable to make a list of necessary things in advance. When packing your suitcases, you need to select only the essentials, putting aside evening dresses and elegant high-heeled shoes. Pregnancy is not the time for a fashion show. The main thing in it is not to demonstrate one’s exclusivity, but to take care of one’s own health and the health of the baby. And therefore we take with us only those things that we cannot do without. It is advisable that they fit into one bag or suitcase.

Adequate nutrition is one of the most important factors in the normal course of pregnancy. It is unacceptable for a strong feeling of hunger to arise during the trip - you will have to satisfy it with anything, and this can negatively affect the health of both the expectant mother and baby. To avoid such situations, you can take crackers, dried fruits, nuts with you - anything that does not take up much space and can satisfy, at least temporarily, the body’s need for vitamins and minerals.

Traveling during pregnancy should only be done after consultation with a gynecologist. He will tell you which transport is best to get to your destination, and what precautions you need to take. In addition, the doctor will give recommendations on standards of behavior during the trip and the type of medications that you will need to carry with you.

Don't forget to take your medical card with you and ask which clinic is located near your holiday destination. Upon arrival, you should visit this clinic, undergo an examination and register temporarily. This will give you the opportunity to contact specialists at the slightest need.

Traveling by car and other means of transport during pregnancy - all the pros and cons!

Of course, every pregnant woman should take care of her health, as well as the proper development of the unborn baby. Now you will have to give up a lot so as not to harm your unborn baby. But many women are concerned about the question of whether it is possible to combine pregnancy and travel. Let's try to figure this out. Of course, there are no specific contraindications for this, and it all depends on your ongoing pregnancy. In this matter, it is worth taking into account the prescribed recommendations of your doctor; if he does not see any threat in going on a trip, then, as they say, have a good trip!

So, traveling during pregnancy is not contraindicated in cases where your pregnancy is progressing normally, without any abnormalities.

If you are still planning to go somewhere, then you should consider some recommendations.

Avoid traveling to exotic countries with very hot climates. Of course, a trip to the sea will be the best choice, but choose resorts with a suitable climate, habitat, cuisine and other things that are familiar to you. During pregnancy, you should avoid such extreme activities as diving, rafting, skiing and other similar options. Give preference to a calm and relaxing holiday.

What type of transport should you choose to go on a trip without risking your health and the health of your unborn baby? In principle, in the early stages of pregnancy you can choose any type of transport, unless, again, there are contraindications from your doctor. Traveling by car during pregnancy will also be a normal option for going somewhere.

If you are planning to travel by plane, then do not forget to stock up on a map of the area, emergency phone numbers, as well as the necessary documents that may be useful (for example, a birth card, which provides all the information about your pregnancy).

But in the last stages of pregnancy it is better to completely avoid air travel and travel by rail. Nowadays, labor can begin at any time, and while you are traveling, you most likely will not be able to receive timely medical care.

So, traveling in the early stages of pregnancy is not dangerous if there are no special contraindications from your doctor. Remember that it is better to avoid traveling to distant countries. In late pregnancy, traveling anywhere is not recommended. Do not forget that proper and complete rest will bring health, as well as unforgettable emotions and impressions.
