First trimester.
There are two critical periods in the first trimester of pregnancy:
The first period is at 2-3 weeks of pregnancy.
It is at this time that the sperm fertilizes the egg, and it attaches to the wall of the uterus. The embryo may then stop developing (frozen pregnancy). Read on the topic: Frozen pregnancy: what it is, causes, signs.
Also, implantation may not occur for various reasons, and in this case the embryo dies and is released during menstruation; the woman during this period may not even suspect that she was pregnant.
The second period is at 8-12 weeks of pregnancy.
During this period, the placenta actively develops. Under the influence of unfavorable factors, disturbances in its formation and anomalies in its development may occur.
Causes of miscarriage during this period:
- a large amount of androgens are released;
- disruption of the thyroid gland and pituitary gland;
- decreased functioning of the corpus luteum of the ovaries.
Dangerous periods of pregnancy by week
First trimester of pregnancy
- It is believed that the beginning is always the most difficult. Indeed, during the first 12 weeks, while the mother’s body is fully adjusting to the needs of a growing life, and the embryo is still very weak, the probability of miscarriage is several times higher than during the rest of the pregnancy.
- The formation of a new organism cannot go unnoticed by the mother’s well-being. That is why in the first weeks of pregnancy a woman has to endure bouts of nausea, emotional instability, frequent urge to go to the toilet, as well as blues.
- The very first dangerous week of pregnancy in the first trimester is the third week - the moment of implantation of the embryo with the help of a blastocyst into the wall of the uterus. It is during this period that the nutrients stored in the egg run out, and the process of searching for resources for further development begins.
- After successful attachment, the embryo begins to actively develop, forming a protective film around itself - the placenta, and with it the umbilical cord. It is the success of these processes that will subsequently become the key to further sufficient nutrition and oxygen supply to all organs of the developing organism.
- Dangerous and important processes during pregnancy are the periods of formation of the spine and heart muscle, which occurs already in the 5th week. Therefore, already at the 6th week, the first signs of abnormalities in the development of the embryo can often appear. This can be either a heart defect provoked by external factors or insufficient development of the brain and central nervous system.
- Radical hormonal changes in the mother's body often become the main cause of termination of pregnancy in the first trimester. A decrease in estrogen levels and an increase in the amount of male hormones in the body, temporary destabilization of the thyroid gland and an increase in the level of endrogens - all this leads to danger in the first weeks of pregnancy.
- In the first trimester, a mother with reduced immunity and her child become the target of various infections. In conditions of such vulnerability, treatment with antibiotics and hormones during pregnancy, and especially in the first trimester, is completely unacceptable.
- An important role in increasing the level of danger during this period is played by the intestinal microflora and the effect of X-ray radiation on the fetus.
Which weeks of pregnancy in the first trimester are the most dangerous? This is, without a doubt, 1 – 3 weeks, when the embryo must successfully undergo the implantation process and not be rejected by the mother’s body. Most women may not even be aware that conception has occurred if the embryo dies in the early stages.
Second trimester of pregnancy
- This period lasts from 12 to 24 weeks and is a time of happy pregnancy. It is at this stage that the expectant mother is left with the unpleasant consequences of the changes in the first trimester: toxicosis and nausea, apathy, outbursts of emotions and headaches. In the second trimester, a woman can freely walk and even exercise.
- By the 16th week of pregnancy, the formation of the placenta is completely completed and the baby becomes protected. Now all nutrition passes through the placenta.
- But the second trimester is not completely cloudless. There is a danger of vaginal infections due to ongoing hormonal changes, which are accompanied by specific discharge. It is during this period that you need to closely monitor hygiene and the slightest changes in the vaginal microflora.
- Changes in the thickness, color and odor of vaginal discharge may indicate pathogenic changes in the body:
- thrush;
- sexually transmitted infections;
- dysbacteriosis;
- flow of amniotic fluid.
- However, there are especially dangerous weeks in the second trimester of pregnancy. For example, at week 16, the baby’s bone tissue begins to form, which can be extremely negatively affected by a cold infection in the mother’s body.
- Weeks 19 and 20 are important for the formation of eggs in the female embryo, immediately followed by the formation of the uterus. These processes are extremely painful for a woman. They are accompanied by sharp pain in the lumbar region, affect the digestive system and often lead to intestinal disorders. It is these weeks of pregnancy that become a dangerous period for the location of the placenta and the cause of weakening of the cervix.
The second trimester should be closely examined by a gynecologist. The slightest changes in well-being and the body’s reaction should immediately lead the young mother to an examination and consultation. Correctly observed pregnancy is the key to a timely response to structural changes and negative factors.
Third trimester of pregnancy
- The last trimester falls from 25 to 39 weeks and is the final trimester in the gestation process. It seems that all the dangers and threats are already behind us, what else could happen?
- In the third trimester, the load on the female body is significant. So the expectant mother has difficulty coping with the last weeks - she feels chronic fatigue, shortness of breath appears, the load on the spine and pelvic organs increases, and sleep deteriorates. In addition, the rapidly increasing weight of both the child and the mother leads to painful sensations in the joints.
- Active preparations for childbirth are underway and the danger of this period of pregnancy lies only in the issue of their premature resolution. The 28th and 32nd weeks are especially dangerous during pregnancy. During these weeks, according to statistics, there is a high probability of hormonal surges, placental abruption, cervical insufficiency and repeated toxicosis.
- During this period, premature birth can also be caused by cervical insufficiency.
Second trimester.
The third period is at 18-24 weeks of pregnancy. It is considered the “safest” and calmest period, during which the uterus, and with it the fetus, actively grows. However, miscarriage is possible during this period, and it can occur for the following reasons:
— ICI (isthmic-cervical insufficiency). As a result: the cervix dilates under pressure from the weight of the fetus and increased tone, which leads to premature birth;
— STIs that disrupt the functions of the placenta, resulting in breakthrough of amniotic fluid;
- pathology of the location of the placenta. As a result of placental abruption, severe internal bleeding occurs, resulting in fetal death.
Dangerous periods of pregnancy by week
Dangerous months during pregnancy occur throughout all trimesters. In terms of the threat of miscarriage, the development of a frozen or ectopic pregnancy, the most dangerous is the first trimester, during which the embryo is implanted into the uterus (2-3 weeks) and the foundations for the formation of all organs and systems are laid. The geoplacental barrier is poorly developed in the first trimester and begins to function fully only from the 12th week. Until this time, the embryo’s body is practically unprotected from external influences.
The second trimester is relatively safe, as a rule, for the expectant mother by this time. toxicosis ends, she feels well, since the size of the fetus is still small, and it does not cause her any noticeable discomfort. At this time there is only one critical period, during which, due to a number of factors, there is a possibility of late miscarriage (18-22 weeks).
The third trimester is dangerous due to late toxicosis (preeclampsia), especially if it is accompanied by symptoms that can provoke premature birth, the threat of which exists from 28 to 32 weeks. This is the last dangerous period of bearing a baby. At this time, the child’s body is almost completely formed. Thanks to modern medical advances, most babies born during this period survive and develop fully in the future.
For pregnancy after IVF (in vitro fertilization), the critical periods of pregnancy occur at the same time as during normal pregnancy. Dangerous points are:
- 2-3 weeks;
- 4-6 weeks;
- 8-12 weeks;
- 18-22 weeks;
- 28-32 weeks.
The most dangerous months of pregnancy
Pregnancy, children > Pregnancy > The most dangerous months of pregnancy
Throughout the entire period of pregnancy, you should carefully monitor your health and follow all the doctor’s recommendations, because the health of the baby largely depends on the health of the mother. But you should pay special attention to your mental balance and physical condition during the dangerous months of pregnancy. If your previous pregnancy was missed or ended in miscarriage, then the month when this happened is considered dangerous for this pregnancy as well.
For all women, the most dangerous months of pregnancy are the second and eighth months. In the second month, all systems and organs of the child are formed. At this time, the risk of miscarriage and the development of fetal pathologies is highest. It is especially dangerous at this time to catch a disease such as rubella. Avoid unnecessary contacts and stress on the body.
If pregnancy is difficult, then in the eighth month there is a high risk of premature birth. At this time, it is also better for the expectant mother to take care of her body, not to lift heavy bags, not to walk too fast, and to rest more.
The danger in the first month of pregnancy is that the expectant mother may not know about it and may neglect her health, lift heavy objects, and abuse alcohol and tobacco. drugs. At this time, X-rays are dangerous, taking many medications, you cannot deal with chemicals, for example, painting windows, etc.
In order to safely carry a child, it is better to plan your pregnancy and register with a medical institution as early as possible. The supervision of a qualified doctor and modern diagnostic methods will help you safely survive this difficult, but such a happy period in life.

01/15/2020 at 00:22As my attending physician told me, a pregnant woman should especially take care of herself in the first trimester of pregnancy, as well as in the last stages. In the first months there is a high risk of pregnancy failure.
