What is the world holiday today?
September 3 is the birthday of the bra . Women recognize this intimate item of clothing as perhaps the most useful, convenient and irreplaceable invention in the history of clothing. Bras appeared in 1900. It was then that the Frenchwoman Herminie Cadol first presented at the exhibition a bodice with lace and separate cups for the breasts.
Before this, ladies had to resort to various tricks - to support their breasts with the help of corsets or, as in antiquity, with the help of strips of leather tightly intertwined on the chest.
Holidays in December 2020
It’s worth immediately paying attention to the fact that there are no official public holidays in December, and therefore there are no holidays either.
Some are interested in the question of where the holiday on December 12, which was established by presidential decree in 1994, went. Everyone knows perfectly well that December 12 is the Constitution Day of the Russian Federation, which for ten years since its adoption was a red day in the calendar, i.e. a day off.
In 2004, the State Duma adopted amendments to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation regarding holidays; December 12 moved from the category of “holiday weekends” to the category of “memorable dates.” Thus, we lost our only holiday in December 14 years ago.
What is the holiday in Russia today?
Today our country celebrates the Day of Solidarity in the Fight against Terrorism . The memorial date was established in 2005 and is dedicated to the tragic events in Beslan, North Ossetia, which occurred on September 1-3, 2004. Let us remember that during the seizure of the school by militants, more than 300 people were killed, 186 of them were children.
In addition, on September 3, Russia celebrates the Day of the End of World War II . In other countries, this holiday takes place a day earlier - September 2.
History of the holiday
On November 4 (October 22, old style), 1612, the people's militia under the leadership of Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky stormed Kitay-Gorod and liberated Moscow from the Polish-Lithuanian invaders. Russian troops marched to the Kremlin in a religious procession with the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God - the defender of the Russian land.
In 1630, the Kazan Cathedral was built on Red Square. In 1649, Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich declared November 4 a public holiday - the Day of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, in memory of the liberation of Moscow from the Polish-Lithuanian troops. After the October Revolution of 1917, the tradition of celebrating this celebration was interrupted.
In September 2004, the Interreligious Council of Russia proposed establishing a holiday on November 4 - National Unity Day. Decree of the President of the Russian Federation V. Putin No. 200-FZ of December 29, 2004 amended Article 1 of the Federal Law of March 13, 1995 No. 32-FZ “On days of military glory and memorable dates of Russia” and Article 112 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation No. 197- Federal Law of December 30, 2001. November 4 – National Unity Day became a day of military glory and a holiday.

What holiday is today according to the church calendar?
On September 3, Orthodox believers honor the memory of the martyr Vassa and her children, the martyrs Theognius, Agapius and Pista. Vassa was the wife of a pagan priest in Edessa of Macedonia, but in her early years she accepted Christianity and converted her sons to it. For this, her husband reported her to the ruler. Vassa’s children were brutally tortured and executed before her eyes, but she encouraged the boys, urging them to endure for Christ. Vassa herself was beaten with sticks, starved, thrown into the sea - she miraculously remained unharmed - and, in the end, beheaded.
Weekends in December 2020
So, in December we only have working days off, which traditionally fall on Saturday and Sunday:
- 1-2, 8-9, 15-16, 22-23, 29-30 , it turned out that 31 is a working day between two days off, the working day on December 30 and the holiday on January 1. However, there is a practice when the government, by its decrees and regulations, postpones days off in various cases based on the expediency of using working time.
- So, on October 14, 2017, the government decree “On the postponement of weekends in 2020” was approved, which indicated the transfer of December 29 to December 31.
- It turns out that both before the postponement of the holiday on December 29 , and after its official postponement, we still rest for 10 days in December.
The good news is that thanks to this postponement, our New Year holidays have grown to the traditional 10 days, just like last year.
What is today's national holiday?
September 3 is celebrated today as Shufutin’s Day - a completely popular modern holiday dedicated to the cult song of Mikhail Shufutinsky “The Third of September”. Today it is common to exchange memes about a famous artist, remakes of a hit and, of course, listen to the original itself.

And in the old days, on this day they celebrated a holiday called Vasilisa Linen. On the day of the holy martyr Vassa, it was customary to collect flax, from which linen was obtained and medicinal potions were prepared.
Peasants also picked apples on Vasilisa Lenyanitsa. It was customary to collect everything to the last fruit, so work in the gardens was in full swing from early morning.

All-Russian holidays
In November 2021, an important date of federal significance awaits us - National Unity Day (04.11.21). This Thursday will be a day off for all regions of the country, and the Wednesday preceding the important date will be a shortened working day.
Thus, out of 4 work weeks, three will be full, and one will be short. But how short the first week of the last autumn month will be is still unknown. There are two possible options:
- Everything will remain as indicated in the draft calendar for November 2021, and the work schedule will be jagged. Working days will be the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th. Although, it is possible that Friday 05.11.21 will be postponed to one of the coming Saturdays.
- The transfer of the day off from Sunday, January 3 to Friday, November 5, will be approved, which will give Russians a 4-day vacation from 11/04/21 to 11/07/21.
The final version of the document for 2021, which indicates all federal holidays and days off recommended for all regions of Russia, will be approved at the end of 2020 (usually before November).
How to relax on the New Year's holiday weekend
We have considered in some detail the issue of when we rest for the New Year holidays, as the New Year's holiday weekend is usually called. Now, we need to think about the question of how we will rest during these 10 days.
Many, following the established tradition, will wish to celebrate the New Year at home; this will take part of the weekend, approximately 3 days, December 30, 31 and January 1.
The remaining 7 days should not lie on the sofa, withdrawing from the whole world; it is more rational to devote them to:
- a short trip around the country;
- attend numerous cultural events in your city;
- visit Moscow by pre-booking a ticket to one of the New Year’s shows, stunning in scale and organization;
- start taking care of your health and take daily walks in the fresh air;
- meet friends and visit relatives;
And also pay maximum attention to your children by learning about their preferences for the New Year holidays.
