Richard Gere's wife refuses to move to the USA with him

Richard and Alejandra chose not to share the details of their wedding, so the public can only speculate... Previously, 35-year-old Alejandra said that she wanted to get married in her native province of Galicia.
“Richard and I are believers, it’s important for us to get married,” she asserted. “My ex-husband and I didn’t have a church ceremony, so this will be my first real marriage.”
To the surprise of many, the newlywed immediately made it clear that after the American part of the celebrations she would return to live in Madrid. There she has parents, friends, preparatory school for her 5-year-old son Albert...
“Now there is no problem in crossing the ocean,” says Alejandra. “We have been living between continents for three years, but we manage to spend no more than two weeks apart.”
Dark times
Alejandra Silva did not appear in Richard’s life by chance or suddenly. The actor has long been friends with her father, Ignacio, a construction magnate and former vice-president of the Real Madrid football club. Young Alejandra knew that her father’s friend was acting in films, but she did not watch films with his participation. She had other idols and interests.
When Alejandra married engineer Govind Friedland, whose family made a fortune in natural resource extraction, she had no time for Richard. They met again only eight years later, in the summer of 2014, at the Villa Treville hotel on the Italian coast. Richard came to rest. Alejandra was spending her last days as a manager at a hotel owned by her husband, from whom she was about to divorce.
“I felt lost,” she said. “There was no light or meaning in life except for my son.”

Richard's marital affairs were not much better. He no longer lived with his second wife, Carey Lowell, but the divorce threatened the actor with the loss of half his fortune. Carey believed that Richard should compensate her for having to give up her career to raise her son Homer. Nevertheless, Gere threw his own problems out of his head and rushed to save the daughter of an old friend from depression.
“It was like he took me by the hand and led me onto the right path,” Alejandra said. “He became a prince, next to whom I could feel like a princess again.” I will never forget what Richard did for me then.”
Deferred karma
Alejandra's affair with a man 33 years older caused understandable panic among her family. However, recently journalists managed to get a surprisingly favorable comment from the actor’s new mother-in-law, Paola.
“We always knew that Richard would give any guy a hundred points,” she said. “As soon as we got to know him not as an acquaintance, but as a family member, doubts gave way to adoration.” We think Alejandra should have his baby."
The young wife answers questions about expanding the family evasively, although the paparazzi once managed to catch her and Richard near a reproductive medicine clinic.
“My primary focus is on my son and second on my work at the Homeless Foundation,” Mrs. Geere sets her priorities. Richard prompted Alejandra to undertake this mission. When she first came to see him in New York, the actor was preparing for the role of a homeless man in the film “Break for Thoughtlessness”: he spent the night on the street and begged with real tramps. Alejandra did not expect such a turn, but after talking with new friends, Ghira was imbued with a desire to help.

“I love Richard for his ability to be compassionate,” she explained. “He has many advantages - intelligence, a sense of humor, but for me the most important thing is his big heart.”
A common passion for improving the world means that the couple is easier to catch at a meeting of the Spanish government or at a reception with the Pope than at social events.
Richard claims that with his third wife he found harmony and peace of mind that he lacked. “Our karmas are drawn to each other,” the actor believes. Ex-wives, Cindy Crawford and Carey Lowell, also thought it was a matter of karma, but they put a completely different meaning into it. When they lived with Gere, he was the star of the family. His needs, opinions and desires were of paramount importance. Now Richard is not so fresh, in demand and popular, and his wife is young, energetic and used to getting everything she wants. Therefore, he, a Buddhist, agrees to get married in a Catholic church and flies to Madrid much more often than Alejandra flies to New York. And what will happen if the young lady is disappointed, Richard can be told in vivid detail by her ex-husband. When he came home to pick up his things after the breakup, the Spanish woman’s bodyguards laid him face down on the floor and put a gun to his head.
“I didn’t give him permission to come in,” Alejandra calmly explained to the arriving police. “In my opinion, he was trying to commit burglary.”
Biography of Richard Gere
Didn't become a philosopher
Richard Tiffany Gere (according to many people who know the actor) is a rather reserved and unsociable person. How did he manage to become a screen star with such modesty?
The family of Homer and Doris Anna Geer, who lived in Philadelphia, were always strapped for cash. Of course: besides Richard, the couple had four more children growing up, all of them wanted to lead an active life (sports clubs and music studios), can you really cope with such a crowd?
Richard studied well, and after school he easily became a student at the University of Massachusetts. But the guy didn’t really like studying philosophy, and after the second year he quit classes and went to New York to build an acting career.
Before that, he tried himself in a different role - he settled in Vermont in a commune of musicians. But this bohemia was not to the liking of the future Hollywood star.
First steps on stage
Gere always had to overcome his shyness when he tried to get work in the theater (and he began his creative career on the stage).
Critics noticed the young actor after his role in the play “The Killer’s Head.” What made this character special was that Gere's character was a criminal on death row, and so he delivered his impassioned monologue while sitting in the electric chair. Blindfolded, no unnecessary movements - try to convince the audience of your sincerity with such a minimum of expressive means!
After this success, Richard got his first film roles.
Versatile actor
He starred in the film “Finding Mr. Goodbar” in a small role, then he was the main character in “Days of the Harvest” by Terrence Malick (Oscar for cinematography). But only the image of Julian (a clever seducer of ladies of “Balzac’s age”) in the erotic thriller “American Gigolo” made the actor famous. A guy for whom love passions are alien, and carnal pleasures are just work, finds himself in a very unpleasant situation: one of his clients has died, which means his reputation may suffer. This hero is very different from the real Gere; the next character from the drama “An Officer and a Gentleman” is much closer to him.
Richard Gere proved that he is a versatile actor with his participation in Coppola’s “The Cotton Club” - this is where his musical talent came in handy, in the biblical saga (“King David”), in the legal thriller “Primal Fear”, in the “costume” melodrama “ A Knight's Tale" (in which he played the legendary Lancelot).
On the way to the Golden Globe
But the artist earned his greatest success (in particular in our country) in 1990, when the Marshallese lyrical comedy “Pretty Woman” was released. More than 463 million box office receipts (and this when the budget was only 14 million dollars!) proved: women still believe in the fairy tale of Cinderella! The film made the younger sister of action star Eric Roberts, Julia, a super popular and highly paid actress, and again proved that (honestly, not so handsome) Gere is a real sex symbol! But he had to be persuaded for a long time before he agreed to the role of millionaire Lewis.
The artist was also good in the film “Chicago”. The crafty and dexterous “hook-maker” lawyer Billy Flynn is capable of making a star out of any murderer, which he successfully succeeds in this musical. Some singers reacted with contempt to the way Gere performed the vocal parts - they say that his voice is creaky, it would be better if he allowed himself to be re-voiced. But the actor did not pay attention to such insinuations. The result of the work was the Golden Globe received by Gere for his Flynn. And the film itself - a rare case for a film of this genre - managed to become the best film of the year and immediately earned 6 Oscars (out of 13 nominations).
Personal life
Despite the fact that women from all over the world are in love with him, Richard does not have such a stormy personal life. He had his first long-term romance at the age of 22, followed by a second no less serious and long-term relationship. His lovers secretly dreamed of a wedding and a family, but in his youth Richard did not want to think about it. Only after reaching his 40th birthday did he mature and be ready for marriage.
Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford
Richard Gere has been married twice. His first marriage to top model Cindy Crawford, concluded in 1991, lasted 5 years. Seven years later, Richard married for the second time – his chosen one was actress Carey Lowell, known to the public for her role as James Bond’s passion in the film “License to Kill.”
Children were in the couple’s plans from the beginning, so the birth of a son did not take long to arrive. The boy was named Homer. Carey also had a daughter from a previous marriage who also lived with them. The wife abandoned her career and devoted herself to marriage, husband and raising children. It was a friendly family, a real home front that turned Richard from a rather gloomy and withdrawn man into a truly happy person who knows how to enjoy every day.

However, fate brought Richard together with a beautiful TV presenter from India, and a passionate romance broke out that lasted many months. His wife became aware of the affair, and in 2013, Richard and his wife decided to divorce due to loss of trust. The trial was closed; according to witnesses, it turned out to be a painful and extremely lengthy process (three years passed from the moment the application for divorce was filed until the case was closed in 2020), and the spouses separated on a completely “unfriendly note.”
