Eyebrow contouring - a new trend and how to do it

What is contouring?

Contouring is a popular makeup technique that allows you to create a visual correction of any part of the face, highlight contours, and add expressiveness.

Principles of contouring:

the ability to create ideal contours with a few brush strokes;
ease of changing proportions using decorative cosmetics properly applied to the body and face;
obtaining a visually narrower face by darkening the zygomatic and cheek areas.

If earlier the concept of contouring was available to professionals, makeup artists working with actors and models, today this technique is quite widespread.

Where can contouring be used:

Evolution of the sketch.

Each era had its own fashion trends and eyebrows, as an important accent underwent changes.

In ancient times, girls lengthened their eyebrows and did not interfere with the fusion on the bridge of the nose - an undivided eyebrow was considered a sign of intelligence and beauty.

In the Middle Ages, the ideal of beauty was the complete absence of eyebrows due to the fashion for a high forehead.

In the 20th century, fashion changed every 10 years. The style icons were theater and film actresses, as well as singers; all the girls looked up to their images. When it became fashionable to emphasize the eyebrows, the shape was a thin and graceful line, the eyebrows were shaved and drawn with a charcoal pencil, extending beyond the outer corner of the eye.

In the 30s, the shape became more curved and wider, the length of the eyebrow still tends to the temple.

In the 40s, the eyebrows cease to be flirty, the shape becomes clearer and has a sharp tip (apex).

In the 50s, the era of rock and roll and femininity begins. Eyebrows become significantly wider and darker.

In the 70s there was a bifurcation of fashion trends. Disco fans plucked their eyebrows to the point, and hippie followers brought naturalness back into fashion.

In the 80s, everything became excessive and shocking, including eyebrows.

In the 90s, check mark eyebrows appeared. They were plucked at an angle or only the beginning and body of the eyebrows were left, while the tail was completely plucked. And then the era of eyebrow threads returned.

And in the 2000s, naturalness returned again with an amendment - eyebrows should not only be fashionable, but also suit the shape of the face. And if earlier the sketch was quite primitive - just dots in order to calculate the dimensions, now it becomes more complicated every year.

Sketch - “yes” or “no”.

As always, the experts are divided into two camps: some believe that eyebrow artists should develop an “eye” and see the client’s shape as soon as he sits on a chair. The latter stand for the sketch. They believe that a calculated and verified shape is the key to success and the main rule of eyebrow design.

Who is right? It's up to you to decide.

There are no strict rules. If you have the talent to create perfect eyebrows without drawing a sketch, that's wonderful. In other cases, it is better not to neglect it.

Creating an outline

To create the perfect contouring you need to go through a number of steps:

Cleanse the skin, apply a makeup base (so that it remains unchanged throughout the day), which can be any foundation.
Use a concealer to hide existing skin imperfections. This may include working with bruises under the eye area and redness.
Apply bronzer to the following areas: cheekbones, temples, under the ridge of the chin, on the sides of the forehead, nose.
Use highlighter on the central part of the face: leave accents on the middle of the forehead, chin, nose, and in the hollow above the upper lip.

To obtain a harmonious result, it is necessary to correctly design the lines of the brow arches. To correct their contours, tweezers or another available depilation method are used.

Eyebrow contouring is usually divided into a number of stages:

Place the hairs of the brow ridges using a special brush. This is necessary so that individual hairs do not stand out from the total mass.
To create the contour of the arches: here you will need dark-colored powder, which is used to highlight the upper and lower parts of the arch. They should not be made too clearly, otherwise the face will look overly graphic and unnatural.
Fill the outline with a dark tone. Leave the area near the bridge of the nose untouched, which will help increase the visual length of the arches.
Create soft transitions on the surface of the arches using the gradient technique (here you need to cover the sides of the eyebrows with a light shade). The powder should be applied in the central part, but not combined with the dark tone already applied.
Blend the colors thoroughly to achieve a natural look. Create eye makeup by applying shadow of the desired shade to the fixed upper eyelid using mascara. Use dark powder to outline the boundaries of the arcs, acting gently, without unnecessary pressure.

To get the perfect result, you need to use dark and light colors of the product (powder, which is easy to shade, is better suited).

Highlighter accents

To accentuate this with highlighter, apply it above the eyebrow. This approach will highlight the eyes, making them wide open and glowing.

Features of applying highlighter:

take a small amount of the product;
shade in the lateral parts of the eyebrows, closer to their edges;
apply under the eyebrow, under the upper eyelid, which does not move;
create a contrast with the color of the arcs.

If you don't have a highlighter, you can use a concealer; it creates about the same effect.

The shape of eyebrows, made in accordance with the features of appearance, makes the appearance more beautiful. There are some mistakes that you should familiarize yourself with in advance in order to avoid them in the future.

The main problems when doing makeup:

Making an arch that is too wide or narrow makes the face disproportionate - it is recommended to take into account the natural width and make it medium.
When determining the shape, the type of lips is not taken into account. If they are thin, you can make neat narrow lines; if the lips are wide, you can make arches of medium thickness.
Thick outlines with small eyes. If the facial features are small, thin lines are made; if they are large, thick arcs are drawn.
If you have a round face, you should not arch your eyebrows.
Dye or cosmetics must match the hair tone.

Fused arches in the area of the bridge of the nose make the appearance untidy and the look heavy.

When creating a form, you should not remove too much hair. Thin and unnatural lines do not decorate the face. The correction should be carried out simultaneously on both eyebrows to ensure a symmetrical result. Most often, only the lower edge is processed, however, if the hairs extend beyond the contour along the entire line, then they are removed above the eyebrow. Using tweezers, hair is removed sharply according to growth to avoid ingrown hairs.
