Micelles and their strength. Micellar water review.

About the washing procedure

It is customary to wash your face twice a day; cosmetologists adhere to this recommendation. Usually, to do this, apply the chosen cleanser to the skin with light rotational movements, then rinse with warm water and blot with a towel. Everything is done without any sudden effort, trying not to injure the skin of the face or stretch it.

During the evening procedure, it is often necessary to remove makeup and decorative cosmetics. They are difficult to wash off using conventional means. Many people successfully use micellar water for washing, the labels of which have a recommendation “do not rinse off.” Is it so? Lately, more and more women are asking the question: “should I wash micellar water off my face or not?”

Do I need to wash micellar water off my face?

How to use micellar water correctly

Despite the fact that the product is recognized as the best among cleansers even by practicing cosmetologists, there are certain rules for its use. You shouldn’t mindlessly wash off your makeup every day, because this can cause “side effects” in the form of acne, acne, areas of inflammation and irritation with peeling and redness.

From what age should it be used?

In principle, there are no age restrictions on the use of micellar water. The only thing cosmetologists advise you to pay attention to is the condition of the facial skin. If a teenager does not have rashes or acne, the dermis is of normal or combined type, and the girl does not use decorative cosmetics, then the product is not needed.

After 25 years, age-related changes in the skin begin. Micellar water will serve as a gentle anti-aging agent. It is at this age that cosmetologists give recommendations on regular use of the product.

How often

If the facial skin responds adequately to such cleansing, then it can be done daily. But experts warn that “micellar” is intended to clean the dermis of dust/dirt and decorative cosmetics. And it is unlikely that this needs to be done in the morning or at lunchtime, although there may be exceptions, for example, if daytime makeup needs to be changed to evening makeup.

Practitioners believe that the normal frequency of use of the product is every evening.

When to do this

Sometimes micellar water is indicated for use. Cosmetologists recommend using it for:

  • excessively dry skin;
  • if you are allergic to any other detergents;
  • wearing contact lenses.

In addition, the product will be useful for those for whom various oily cleansing creams/lotions/tonics cause extensive formation of comedones.

Why you can't use micellar every day

This opinion is often expressed by cosmetologists and they justify this recommendation by the fact that it is possible that the water-fat balance of the dermis may be disrupted and problems may arise in metabolic processes at the cellular level.

In general, this issue is still controversial; it is worth assessing the condition of the skin on an individual basis. If there are no peelings, irritations on the skin, and its color does not deteriorate, then there are no restrictions on the frequency of using micellar.

It will be necessary to interrupt the procedures if extensive purulent rashes form, because excessively active cleansing of the dermis can “work” paradoxically - there will be many more problem areas on the face, and infection may occur.

Do I need to wash it off?

Be sure to wash micellar water off your face! Cosmetologists repeat this advice to every woman who uses the product. Yes, you can find a product on sale made on the basis of poloxamers - it does not need to be washed off, but where is the guarantee that the manufacturer has not added additional surfactants to it. This will be indicated on the label, but in very small print.

There is an algorithm for using micellar water:

  1. Wash your face with clean water.
  2. Wipe the skin with a cotton pad soaked in the product.
  3. Wash with warm water.

If you are using particularly persistent decorative cosmetics, then at the very beginning you need to remove it with any greasy product, and then move on, according to the algorithm.

Why do you need micellar water?

Micellar water is a liquid solution containing water, oils, and cleansing emulsifiers. Manufacturers often enrich it with minerals and plant extracts that relieve irritation. Micelles are active components that promote the formation of surfactants that effectively bind and remove fat and harmful substances. The skin does not dry out or become irritated.

How to improve the condition of your facial skin

Depending on the composition of emulsifiers, water is divided into three types:

  • The first contains standard emulsifiers, with many additional solvents (butylene glycol, propylene glycol). If these substances are not washed off, they can cause dry skin and irritation over time. This product must be washed off.
  • The basis of the second type of water is the components of green chemistry (luvoglucasite, cocoglucasite), which are classified as low irritant and non-toxic. Occasionally, this product does not need to be washed off.
  • The third type is based on band meters. Such products are low irritant and there is no need to rinse them off.

Interesting. The eye-catching “do not rinse off” label has been adopted by other enterprising marketers for their campaigns.

Micellar water serves as a gentle and effective facial cleanser.

What is micellar water

Micellar water belongs to the class of surfactants that we encounter all the time. They are responsible for the cleansing abilities of shampoos, washing and shower gels, washing powders, soaps, etc. A special feature of surfactants are the particles of which they are composed - micelles. Micelles are a conglomerate of surfactant molecules with an unusual double-sided structure; one side of the molecule repels water molecules (hydrophobic part), the other, on the contrary, attracts them (hydrophilic part).

Surfactant molecules in solution are connected to each other by hydrophobic parts, forming a sphere with an outer part that easily connects with water molecules - these are micelles. At the same time, the hydrophobic part of the micelles easily attaches fat particles and fat-soluble substances. Thus, micelles distribute particles of fat, oil, and sweat between water molecules, that is, they dissolve them.

Propylene glycol (Monopropylene glycol)Polyethylene glycol-1500

Another property of micelles is a decrease in the surface tension of water. For example, you can carefully place a steel needle on the surface of ordinary water and it will “float” without sinking to the bottom. But you won’t be able to do this trick with micellar water; the needle will immediately sink. This property helps to create emulsions from substances of different natures (creams, lotions, gels, etc.). Moreover, these emulsions are quite stable and do not separate for a long time. For example, using micellar solutions you can create water-soluble liquids of uniform consistency, which contain extracts from plant materials, essential and fatty oils, and vitamins.

Like any surfactant, micellar water actively forms foam (you can conduct an experiment and shake the bottle with micellar water). The liquid turned into foam dramatically increases the effective contact area of the active substances with the cleaning surface. This property is used in cosmetic foams, shampoos, and shower gels.

Purpose of micellar water

Before you go to the store to purchase, you need to know what micellar water is used for. The main purpose of micellar is:

Removing cosmetics from facial skin. Thanks to micelles, contaminants are quickly attracted to a cotton pad soaked in the product. Use micellar water for all skin types. It easily copes with waterproof cosmetics used for makeup.

Cleansing facial skin in extreme or hiking conditions. Using micellar, you can clean your face in any conditions, and disinfect your hands with a special product, regardless of the time of day.

Daily hygiene of the facial skin, which helps to rejuvenate and cleanse the skin, maintaining the natural balance of acids, lipids and other substances on the surface of the epidermis.

Making the surface of oily or combination skin matte, as excess sebum is removed, pores are narrowed, and secretion from the sebaceous glands is reduced.

You don’t need to look for a description and instructions on how to use micellar water yourself in any information sources, because all the necessary information is available on each bottle.

Cosmetologists recommend using micellar water that matches the required skin type. To remove makeup, soak a sponge with the product and gently wipe the face along the massage lines without stretching the epidermis. Then they move on to the eyes.

Tar soap: benefits and harm for facial skin

Pour the cleanser onto another cotton pad and apply it to the eyelids: first to the upper one for 25-30 seconds, then to the lower one. If there are still particles of mascara on the eyelashes, then after this procedure they should be washed off well with ordinary warm water. Is it necessary to wash your face after using micellar water? There is only one answer - it is necessary.

Note! If sometimes you don’t have the opportunity to wash your face, then nothing bad will happen. But when this is done regularly, some problems with the dermis may arise: excessive dryness and irritation, because the surfactants contained in the product cause a negative skin reaction from prolonged exposure.

Composition of micellar water

The product may contain natural hydrolates, plant extracts, and moisturizing components. These supplements are very useful for our skin - they help solve this or that problem.

Mass market products may contain unwanted components. You need to know about them in order to be careful when choosing. Key ingredients that should not be in micellar water :

● Alcohol. In small doses it is useful and helps to absorb beneficial substances. But here it is completely unnecessary and can dry out even oily skin.

● PEG. An emulsifier, but in high concentrations it can cause dryness. We cannot find out how much emulsifier was added at production, so it is better to avoid such products.

● SLS and other aggressive surfactants. This water can cause a feeling of tightness. The skin is peeling and irritated. Choose natural products based on lauryl and cocoglucosides.

● Artificial colors and preservatives. May cause an allergic reaction and irritation.
