Nadezhda Babkina was born on March 19, 1950 in the city of Akhtubinsk [1] [2] of the Astrakhan region, in the family of a hereditary Volga Cossack Georgy Ivanovich Babkin (1916-1990) and a primary school teacher Tamara Aleksandrovna Babkina (1925-2008).

She spent her childhood and school years in the village of Zubovka, Chernoyarsk district, Astrakhan region[6].

She sang from early childhood. In 1967, while studying in the 10th grade of high school, she won the All-Russian Youth Competition in the genre of Russian folk song[1][2].

After graduating from high school in 1967, she entered and in 1971 graduated from the Astrakhan Music College[2].

In 1971 she entered the conducting and choral faculty of the Gnessin State Musical and Pedagogical Institute in Moscow. She graduated from the institute with two specialties: “conducting a folk choir” (in 1976) and “solo folk singing” (in 1983)[2][5].

In 1974, while still a student, within the walls of Gnesinka she formed the vocal ensemble “Russian Song”[1][2], which consisted of six girls[5]. At the first concerts of the ensemble in small towns and villages, few people gathered. They also performed on factory floors with machines running. The first notable success was a performance in Sochi at the All-Russian Soviet Song Competition in 1976[7]. Soon three men were added to the group of girls. The ensemble under the direction of Nadezhda Babkina has performed more than a hundred arrangements of Russian folk songs, created a large number of thematic concert programs, performances, and folk performances (“Wedding,” “Maslenitsa,” “Night Fortune Telling.” “When the Sand Rises,” “Russian Song” collects friends”, etc.). Since April 1994, folklore has become an independent organization under the jurisdiction of the Moscow City Culture Committee. It consists of an instrumental group of six musicians, who own many of the arrangements. Directors Sergei Tsvetkov, Lyubov Grechishnikova, choreographer Elena Karaseva, artists A. Mamaev, M. Fedorova, Valentin Yudashkin take part in the work of the center. Nadezhda Babkina is an active member of the Russian political party United Russia.

On June 23, 2008, the Moskovsky Komsomolets Estonia newspaper published an interview in which Nadezhda Babkina approved the actions of the Estonian Government in moving the monument to Soviet soldiers who fell in the Great Patriotic War from Tõnismägi Hill in the center of Tallinn to the Military Cemetery, and called on those living in Estonian Russians do not protest against the authorities of the republic. On September 15, 2014, she participated in the elections to the Moscow City Duma in electoral district No. 6 (Golovinsky, Levoberezhny, Khovrino districts and part of Western Degunino), where she received the majority of votes[17].
